For a reason I can't pin down, I can't get this to be stable above 400mhz. Even at that, it sometimes won't want to POST. When it does, it's fine for at least 15mins in LinX (64bit, Win7). I've tried up to 475mhz to see if there was a range it didn't like, but it just seems overall limited.
Specs:
PCP&P 750watt
q6600
ga-ep45t-usb3p mobo
2x2gb G.Skill ddr3 2000mhz ram (got it cheap)
msi 5770 "hawk"
Win7 64bit
I'll admit I've not tried much overclocking since I got this q6600 a week after G0 steppings started showing up (luckly mine was a G0). I kept putting off modding my old water setup for the quad since it was so much faster stock than a 2.5ghz barton. I got a Coolermaster 212 Hyper Plus recently (not looking for records), so I figured I'd try some overdue overclocking. FYI I also lapped the CPU and cooler base, followed the most effective TIM app method with AS5, and have more than enough airflow.
I've tried the ddr3 at the loosest SPD settings and as low as 1000mhz. Same for the cpu, I've tried it at a 6x multi to start. I've also cranked voltages pretty high now, after many tests slowly increasing from stock.
Voltages I've tried so far:
vcore: 1.375v
MCH: 1.40v
VTT: 1.38v
PLL: 1.68v
I know other cpu's and ddr2 versions of this chipset can crank up pretty high. I've researched what people recommend for the upper limits for the listed voltages, so that's why I've stopped there. I don't have much experience with those settings though.
The only thing I can think of, assuming it's not my mobo/cpu/memory - this board will *not* disable C1E or EIST. The settings will change & save, but all software I've tried show voltage & multi changing. However, since I've turned the voltages up a decent amount and tried a 6x multi, it doesn't seem that is the issue.
ATM I'm running lower voltages, [email protected], and 1512mhz/cas9 for the ddr3. It passes 20 mins of LinX error free. Temps in CoreTemp max at 80C for cores 0&1, 77C for cores 2&3. If I try >390fsb (up to max voltages above, any multi & ddr3 setting), it barely even posts. Am I missing something or did Gigabyte drop the ball on DDR3 support? Help!
