Friend of mine lapped his cpu, then he said he washed it down with 99% rubbing alcohol. When seating the waterblock the IHS pop'd off.
Now I know the story is fishy at best but this is not the concern, can the clown run the chip with the IHS removed or is it new chip time and I get a fancy keychain.

He says the rig will post so the chip is not totally fubared but the mounting pressure will be the key to sucess, what do you guys think?

I think they used to use those little rubber stick on dots back in the day on the socket A chips. Like the ones you put on the bottom of stuff to keep it from scratching surfaces.

Couldn't you use thermal pads? Like the ones from GPUs.
