Yet another headphone thread

But this time the AD700s wont work.

I need some closed headphones for mixing. They need to isolate, sound good, and it'd be nice if they were comfortable. Then again I doubt it's even possible to make headphones that isolate and are as comfortable as the AD700s. Right now I'm looking at:

Sennheiser HD 25-II. These seem to be the end-all DJ headphone. My only problem is I'm not sure how comfortable they are going to be.

Shure SRH 840. I've heard these are pretty comfortable, but don't isolate much at all.

Audio Technica M50. I don't remember too much about what people said about these, but it's a closed headphone in the price range and says audio technica on the side.

Sennheiser HD 280. I actually tried these out at guitar center once. It was right after I got into fancy headphones, so I don't remember that much about them. What I do remember is they didn't have enough bass for me at the time (that's definitely changed), and that they isolated very, very well. They are also pretty cheap.

So I ask upon the audiopals of OCF; what do?

I also listened to some DT770s that one day, I wasn't too impressed with them. They might be able to do it on comfort though.....

I might have to take a trip back to head-fi.

I have the Shure SRH840. With my LD I+ they are very balanced and wonderful sounding. Nothing hurts other than how they fit. Once you get 'em on right they're fine, but they're big, bulky and a bit un-wieldy (sound first, though). Beautiful sound! Isolation wise, I'd say it's about as good as a non-perfect fit will get. They probably cut noise by about 40-50%. Sound wise, mids are creamy, highs are there, but very soft, bass is what I'd call balanced. More potent than ATH-AD700 at comparable volumes, but without going overboard like the MDR-V6.

Speaking of which, some of the biggest names in the industry use MDR-V6.

Polly Samson Photography, of a pink floyd studio session:

Ayla, an electronica artist: (these are the 7506, arguably the same)

This is all I could find at the moment, but these are two artists I absolutely love.

Little late on that, my HD 25-1 IIs are sitting right next to me. You caught me on only the second time I've worn my AD700s since I got the senns, though.

Best sum up of the HD 25-1 IIs I can do is, take the AD700s, swap the soundstage for isolation, throw in some bass and extra detail and you are there. They are pretty comfortable with the velor pads, a bit less than the pleathers but the pleathers have more isolation....

Oh, and my dad used to have some of those sony's. I remember them being bright as the sun, but that was a LONG time ago. They also tend to break.

Well, it's too late but I can't help diving in...are you mixing as in live mixing or are you mastering? The latter might have different requirements, mastering and studio-monitor type speakers/phones often have different and not so pleasurable sound quality but they aren't designed to - they are designed to extract every possible amount of information from a recording not necessarily 'sound good/fun.'
