Heh... I love the crappy old keyboards where all the keys are where they are supposed to be... That way my fingers dont have to go hunting I dont think you should spend a lot of money on a keyboard period... theres nothing special going on here.

Several of my friends won't shut up about mechanical keyboards. What is that all about?? Aren't mechanical keyboards really old?

not all of them are really old (Das Keyboard)

the main reason people like mechanicals is tactile feedback and that they last forever. TBH i personally don't care either way, if it can type and has standard full qwerty layout its good for me, but to each his own.

edit: found this nifty post on mechanical keyboards.
http://www.overclock.net/computer-pe...ard-guide.html
very thorough and in depth. some of the mechanicals he mentions aren't all that expensive.

Yes I agree, I have the slightly less fancy Razer Arctosa (no LED's), and it's the greatest keyboard I have ever owned. Disabling and remapping buttons in the keyboard control program or whatever it's called is great.

Whatever feels good! Go to a store and try some out.

Don't be afraid to go old school though. Seriously! My favorite keyboard is a ten year old standard Dell keyboard.

This Razor one you're talking about looks pretty nice and I already have a Razor mouse so I may have to consider this.

I've realized in the past year or two how important a good gaming mouse is, especially for FPS's. Do you guys think a good keyboard is just as important? I've always gamed fine with my standard keyboards. Right now I've got some random Compaq Presario board...

Heard some bad things about the Lycosa keyboard, not trying to put down the guy above ^^ but if you want a pretty good keyboard with good reviews and macro keys get the Logitech G110

That Logitech is a good board as well. The problems with the Lycosa were in the initial production run and Razer replaced them free of charge for the customers ( even included shipping ). It basically comes down to what you want on your desk when buying a keyboard.

I researched gaming keyboards for a few weeks while awaiting the parts for my new computer. I finally settled on the Roccat Arvo. I chose this because of its smaller than standard side, the overall design (love the f keys on the edge of the keyboard), the thumb hotkeys are invaluable for gaming and MUCH better than logitech's G keys (using your pinky for them isnt convenient at all). It's also got a full sized enter key and the "\" key is next to the left shift. If you play RTS or MMO's this is an extra (convenient) hotkey in addition to the 3 thumb buttons below the spacebar.
I don't believe they sell it in the US, I had to get mine from some guy in the UK on ebay.

The last keyboard I owned was the Lycosa. The only things I liked about this keyboard was the software and the low height keys (which the Arvo has as well). However, keys would randomly stop working, there are no macro keys or additional hotkeys and all of the primary gaming keys (QWERASDFZXC..) wore off. Before that I owned a Logitech G15 (1st gen) which I liked except for the cheezy LC (looks bad) and horrible software.

Razer Nostromo / Razer BlackWidow Mechanical?

Razer actually makes some pretty sweet gaming keyboards these days.
Both the Razer Nostromo Gaming Keybpad and the Razer BlackWidow Mechanical Keyboard are pretty popular. If you aren't familiar with mechanical keyboards, they have a very different, more substantial feel to them, which some gamers prefer.

I've been searching for a keyboard that looks like my MacBook Pro keyboard...
Well, I didn't find any...
So I'm going to buy an Apple Wireless Keyboard for gaming...

Yeah, I know... ^^
