Removing Raid - Roaches revenge

Hi guys,

I am in the process of removing software raid from two of my systems. Raid0 from my main and Raid0 from my file server. I don't want to mess with the main yet as it is business essential. My BIOS has an option when I boot to edit raid settings, but when I hit the buttons to go into it the only thing that shows is the operating system boot menu. I downloaded the intel raid controller and I can break the raid in Windows now, but it warns me that I will erase all data.

I am pretty sure I am on the latest BIOS, and I recall the BIOS raid setup is how I created it originally. I am thinking of just yanking one of the two drives from the raid setup and seeing what happens.

Any ideas?

Edit:
(Intel 945G Chipset on a Dell XPS 400)

Thanks,

You're probably missing the time when you need to hit the key combo to get into the RAID config.

Removing a drive is not a great idea if you have not backed up the data yet. I hope that before you have done any of this, that you have rounded up all the necessary software cd's and backed up ALL your data.

There are imaging programs that can backup and restore the config completely from a RAID setup to a regular setup, you would just rebuild the bootloader after it's the restore is complete. Perhaps something to look into?

Agree with you totally. Has anyone heard of HDClone for cloning a hard drive? I am thinking of giving it a try before I mess with this. Windows backup took a 30GB drive and turned the backup into 280GB. F Dat.
