i have this gpu and the dvi cable does not work with my dvi cable on my monitor. My monitor is a vga monitor which i converted to dvi-i through an adapter then tried to plug it into the dvi cable of the gpu but it doesnt fit because my monitor dvi cable has 4 extra pins what do i do now?

The eyefinity 6 doesn't have DVI, it just has 6 displayports...

it comes with adapter to change display ports to female dvi. Now what is the difference between dvi-d and dvi-i i think that might be my problem?

Mk, I figured it out. There's DVI-D and DVI-A, one is digital and one is analog. Both have different pin configurations. There's also DVI-I, which is both of them combined.

So, a male DVI-I will only work with a female DVI-I. The adapter that came with your GPU is probably a DVI-D, you can check with this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/DVI_Connector_Types.svg

But either way, you need a DP to DVI-I adapter for your GPU, or a VGA to DVI-A adapter, since VGA is analog adn so is DVI-A.

Or to make things extra simple, get a VGA-DP adapter. But a google search makes it seem like only VGA to Mini-DP adapters exsist. So then you would need a VGA to Mini-DP and Mini-DP to DP adapter.

Can displayport pass an analog signal? (EDIT: Apparently it can... Apple sells minidisplayport to VGA adapters :))

Yeah, there are tons of minidisplay to VGA adapters, and mini-DP and DP are the same signal. But then you'd still need two adapters, neither of which you have. Just get DP to DVI-I adapter, that should be the simplest option.

ok you got my problem figured out now i have the display port to dvi-d dual link adapter which wont fit my dvi-i dual link adapter because of the 4 extra pins. I also have an hdmi to mini display port adapter which came with the gpu. So I am putting links up to the 2 options i think will work can you let me know if it will work or not.

ok so i bought the dvi-a which is the wrong one i figure the the dvi-d wont work because that one is digital and vga is analog can i just bend the extra pins lol

Ok so i bought a vga to mini display port connector and my monitor still says no connection why is that?
