BIOS Update=Lower Temps Question

I have been reading various comments online where people have been able to flash their GTX 480's to a BIOS that lowers temps by 9c! Does anyone know if there is a BIOS available that does this for the GTX 470?

Is it just using a more aggressive fan profile? Links?

I've improved temps and power consumption on an 8800GTS-512 and a GTX280 by modifying the BIOS (by lowering GPUv, and a more aggressive fan profile). I was able to achieve the same thing using just software on the GTX280 at first, but I wanted it more permanent, so I modified the BIOS.

I always prefer to modify my own BIOS as opposed to flashing someone else's to ensure compatibility, but there are certain cases where flashing to a different manufacturer can be advantageous.

I haven't messed w/ the new cards yet, but I assume the process is very similar to how it was on the last few generations that I have played with.

Yeah that is most likely the case. Most of the comments were non-specific, but they are probably just flashing other manufacturer's BIOS with a different fan profile.

I wonder how many people have bricked their card by flashing a different manufacturers BIOS?

As long as the cards are all reference design you should be able to flash fine between different manufacturers.

And if you do screw up you can always blind flash or use another card so you can see while you flash it back. But if you're going to get into flashing it's a good idea to do your research to make sure you understand all the risks.
