Question Which one would you use?

I have two boards to choose from to OC an E2180.

This is the first board:
Gigabyte EP43-UD3L (P43 Chipset)

and the second one:
ASRock P45TS (P45 Chipset)

Now, I have OC'd the cpu once before in the gigabyte board to 3.xGhz.

The ASRock board seems to give trouble by just running the chip over 2.5Ghz.

My question is which board would you suggest to give the best overall result? The faster OC w/ P43 chipset or the slower OC w/ P45 chipset?

Thanks!!
Brandon

You should easily be able to hit the same clocks or higher w/ the Asrock P45 board. If you're not achieving that, then certain BIOS options aren't being set correctly. What do you mean by "The ASRock board seems to give trouble by just running the chip over 2.5Ghz"? What kind of trouble?

I either get BSOD after post or won't post at all.

I haven't spent very much time with the ASRock board just noticed it is not OC'ing as easy as the gigabyte board did.

I also cannot get the PCIE bus to lock on the p45 board.

Overclock Mode needs to be set to Manual, which enables U.O.T. and unties / unlocks the FSB, but fixes / locks the PCI / PCIE buses.

With P43 you're rather limited on the OC. Go for P45, much better.

I tried before with the Manual setting but still wanted to move the PCIE along side the cpu clocks.

Did a quick bios update and fixed that dirty business.

Silly me for considering the Gigabyte board. I just enjoyed the bios more.

Have been spending some time today on the ASRock board and so far so good.

Right now running 2.95Ghz @ 1.232v... and so far stable. Going for 3+......

Also, on stock HSF.... need to grab the aftermarket from the box to maybe cool it down a tad.
