ssd upgrade killing me!!!

so been working with the P45 asus board and not a fan.

here is what I want:

2x2tb drives in RAID0
1xSSD for OS with AHCI.

so far this is difficult!!!

if i got back to my 780i for SLI support, i want to "add" ahci support. If I get a raid/sata PCIE card will I get AHCI through that? will i get native trim?

has anyone else thought of adding a sata adapter card ? i can only assume yes, however i was looking at newegg and that feature was not listed. However, the controllers listed NCQ, and isnt that a "ahci" feature?

if so i would need something that wouldnt be slower than the onboard controllers, and max of 2 ports.

any ideas?

thanks!!

Depends on the controller on the SATA card, and the drivers. There are many times a driver will block the passing of the TRIM command. Check out the SATA controller chip specs and then see about the driver.

AHCI should be on when the SATA controller is in RAID mode. If you use the intel SATA controller with updated RTS drivers you will have TRIM support so long as the actual SSD is not in a RAID.

would using a sata/raid card with a nvidia chipset allow native trim if the controller supports it? i didnt see it listed as a "feature" when checking out the adapter cards...

im thinking I want to go back to my 780i board, to have sli, but dont want to deal with no trim and a toolbox app to fix. Especially since i have other raid drives, and to use the toolbox you need to replace the nvidia driver with the MS one.

im jsut hesitant to upgrade to a 1366 comp since its a "dead socket" and i have a qx9770 as it is

argh!
