PS3 - backing up saves/trophies

I have 2 systems, but only 1 controller, so using the data transfer utility is not an option (plus there isn't much I want to backup). My question:

If I copy my saves (from 2 games) onto a usb stick from the old system, sign in with my PSN account on the new system, and then copy them over to the new system: will I be able to keep my existing trophies, and keep earning trophies from these saves?
