Windows 7: Possible to password protect printers?

My little ones keep printing pictures of crapola and wasting printer ink.

Is there a way to password protect a printer in Windows 7? I can't seem to find one besides buying a program that will do it.

No clue about passwording the printer. Maybe try unsetting the networked printer as the default so at least it won't start printing every time the printer icon is clicked.

Besides 3rd party software, you can change the printer permissions in Win7... Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers, right click the default printer and select Printer properties--> Security tab.

What are printer permissions?
