Hey,

ok so i put together my new system today which consists of a

955 BE
Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H
4 Gb DDR2 Corsair Memory (800)
ATI HD5770 GPU

Ok so i've been reading through many forums/ how to guides etc etc, i downloaded the AMD Overdrive tool and it wouldnt let me modify the Multiplier so i went into the bios and changed the multiplier in there i upped it from 16x to 17x and then 18x and it took my total to 3.6GhZ, ok so i used the CPU-Z tool and i dont see it @ 3600 i see it at 800, sometimes it goes up to 3600 but it seems to sit at 800 and the multiplier at x4

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1445389 (showing at 800)

Now i no this is probably a complete stupid question but why does it do this?
Also at 3.6 it only showing 0.944v but i have seen it go up to 1.3v and then back down again

Im using a Freezer pro rev 2 cooler

I want to OC it to the limit but i fear i am doing something wrong.

Thanks in advance for your replies and help

My pc jst suddenly froze and reste its self and all settings were back to standard.. 3.2ghz etc... why would it do this ?

Thanks for the reply, i did as u suggested and it stopped the throttling. i've been messing around with it now and have it running at 3914mhz @ 1.360v

I ran OCCT on the CPU linpack running the max test mode For 6 mins and @ full loadand my temp went up to 60.5 but sits on an average of around 40

as i understand it is very rare the CPU will run at full load so will i be ok to leave it at the current overclock or should i maybe lower it slightly?

:welcome: to OCF!

If I were you I'd lower the overclock until load core temps are down to at least 57°C and given that the temp hadn't even reached its peak in six minutes I'd run the test longer next time.

I'd also check the case airflow. Six minutes is a long time to reach max temp and you weren't there, yet. With air cooling that usually means you're getting heat built up inside your case. Take the side of the case off and use a room fan to blwo air in there to see if it helps.

Keep us posted on progress. The overclock looks great but you've got to get those temps under control ... :)
