New to OC need help on core-voltage

Hey guys whats going im new here been looking into OC my cpu for a while now and i think im finally going to get off my butt and do it, any way i just wanted a few tips on what voltages and fsb i should use to get my Intel E8500 to say 3.6 or maybe even 3.8.

Comp specs are as follows:
Cpu: intel E8500 3.13ghz
mobo: Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR
Ram: 5 gig kingston dual channel ddr2 @ 333mhz 5-5-5-15
gfx: (just got) Ati Saphire 5770 1gig 850 core speed

so 1st question do i have the gear to do it?
2nd what voltages to use?
and any other tips u have

Thanks!

why is your memory 333? or is it just clocked that way right now?
How do you get 5G in 4 slots? did you mix the memory? that can sometimes be a hinderance.

the cpu is a very good one for the 775, great for gaming.
the motherboard is not going to handle Too much extra amperages , luckily the CPU is a 65W type, so that helps vses a 95W quad.
so be cool with the voltages
lock the PCI to 100 and the other thing to 33 , and start bringing the FSB thing up. and dont increase the voltages so much till you need to .
(if you want a max limit to work with dont go over 1.3V on the cpu )

the 5770 is good for not using so much power, and is a cooler card , which should provide you with room to increase it somewhat.

Are you starting with a guide from somewhere?
you did not supply the PSU model or power that your using in your specs.

And post lots of pics too :-)
.

hey thanks for the reply.

Um not sure why it says 333 i got that from cpu-z unless my ram is just way old :S
ive been looking around for a decent guide but all the ones ive found havnt said much on
voltages for a E8500 so i didnt want to mess with anything until i have at least half an idea

Sum Links , looks good for you :-)

I have the same Gigabyte board - this thing is a beast, got to 4.0Ghz on the first try with everything at "AUTO" except the DRAM Voltage

many of the software links are dead, so here is a rescent one instead
you get CPUz here
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
see all the cool things it shows about the cpu that the system is running

Real Temps
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1325/mirrors.php
is one possibility for seeing the temperatures that the system has, doesnt always work for everything, but it is a start.

Sandra
http://www.sisoftware.co.uk//?d=dloa...dl_3264&l=en&a=
sisoft sandra can tell you a lot of things about the system, it used to be more free :-(

Prime95 , or Orthos , or anything that taxes the CPU
http://www.overclockingwiki.org/index.php/Prime95
this can put the cpu , even multiple cores through its paces, so you can see how the CPU and cooling handle the temps.
different "torture tests" in this program can test Mostly CPU or CPU and RAM.

memtest86
http://www.memtest.org/
Make some sort of bootable disk for memtest, or bootable USB memory stick now, this is run without the OS to test the memory
it will heat up memory, and test it and show errors if it is not tuned or cooled properly.

Furmark, or GPUtool for ATI
http://downloads.guru3d.com/FurMark-...load-2523.html
Furmark will harsh on the GPU somewhat exclusivly, testing the stability of the gpu.
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showth...hlight=gputool
GPUtool mostly for ATI, this version still in beta

you pretty much have to have all this stuff, and test, otherwise you crank stuff up blind, and something crashes, or everything looks fine THEN it crashes, and you dont know why.
without em one can only guess.
each of the items can be configured to show SPECIFIC things, or TAX specific areas of the hardware, so you can tell what is the weak link, how your adjustments are going, or if your cooling sucks so bad that you have to alter it.
