Question safest stability tests for 460gtx?

So now that Ive got one dead 460 (in my other thread). I want to make sure my second one doesnt meet the same fate.

On the first, it totally fried @ stock voltage and 880mhz @ 63c during a load test in furmark after passing a 5 minute run of kumbostor(furmark) at 870mhz without a single artifact and keeping 62c temps. The settings were 1680x1050, 4xAA, windowed. These are the same settings i use when I game, so i figured it was a good test. I had been running each OC starting at 800mhz at the above settings for 5 minutes, letting the temp return to idle, adding 10mhz and doing 5 more minutes. I figured i would evenutally have some artifacts and back down 15mhz and leave it there. I had no intention of adding volts.

I do not want to kill my other card.... I'm guessing that furmark with its card killing abilities (as i am a victim of) is not a good idea. Please let me know what benchmarks and such you reccomend for my second card. I'm guessing Unique Haven, 3d Vantage, and 3dmark 06 are a good idea as well as the F1-2010 benchmark (I own that game).

Let me know!

All those tests as well as the Crysis benchmark; 10 loops.

Also I was just looking at a review on the GTX580, and they are using an Alien vs. Predator benchmark. It might also be useful as it has DX11 w/ Tessellation. They also had a HAWX 2 benchmark that looked interesting.

The key is to use as many different programs that put a heavy, consistent, but still realistic load on the GPU and run them for 15-20mins while watching for artifacts. If you find a particular sub-test in Vantage or '06 that shows signs of artifacts then run a custom 10x loop on that sub-test (if you have the full version that allows it). Focus in on the problem areas, b/c this is where you will have issues in real games.

And the final test is actual gaming. How does it do for hours on end of real gaming? You may have to make small tweaks as you go forward if you have re-occurring issues.

Also of note is that in the GTX580 nVidia has a power management unit that will automatically throttle the GPU when faced w/ an unrealistic load such as Furmark or OCCT. nVidia knows these tests kill cards, and they are trying to do something about it.

No, just download the demo. There are exe files in the bin folders labeled CPUbenchmark and GPUbenchmark (or something like that). You can also download 1 of a couple different Crysis benchmark front-ends that allow you to do multiple runs and set the options much more easily. If you just run the exe file manually it only runs once, and it uses your in-game settings.

There is another one called HOC, but I'm not sure if it's better or what.

Did you try both links? The first one says this:

Quote:
Software Description

The tool provides a robust front-end to benchmark Crysis. It provides the ability to queue up many runs and will provide detailed results for each test as well as an overall summary with accurate averages. The first and foremost goals were simplicity and reliability in the tool and in the benchmark scores. Works with retail and demo.

It worked for me years ago when I only had the demo. I have the full version now, though.

Edit: Did you install the demo to a custom location or something?

I just tried it too and it says it cannot run without being installed into the Crysis folder.

Did you guys install the benchmark utility to the Crysis folder? And then launch the benchmark program?

It should go straight from the benchmark utility interface where you select your settings into the bench run. You will never see the demo launch or be in the Crysis menu's.

If I have time I'll try it tonight myself, and see if I can figure out what I did before.

OK, I have the full game installed, but try this anyway.

Download this:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/Crysis-B....html#download

Extract it to your C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis directory.

Run Crysis Benchmark Tool.exe
