Need help choosing a 2 or 3 monitor video card.

I currently have onboard video card and not to familer with video cards so I need some help.

I would like to hook up 2 or 3 monitors total. What do I need to look for when I buy the video card and the monitors. What plug does the monitor need to have and the video card need to have? Any video card recommendations? What is the DVI and HDMI plug.

Right now my pc has a blue monitor pluggy where its pluged into now and a dvi plug. Im pretty confused. What im getting from it i need to buy a video card with 2 or 3 ports with dvi or hdmi to plug the 2 or 3 monitors into that video card?

Thanks
