I have a Z915, the model just below it. I've played with the Z950 a lot, and it fixes everything that I think is wrong with the Z915. The only P&S that I feel are clearly better is the Canon S90 or S95, or the Nikon P5/6/7000, but they cost a whole lot more. The only downside is the lack of a viewfinder, either optical or digital, but very few compact cameras come with that anyway. Overall, an excellent deal you got there on an excellent camera.

Why do those cameras tend to only have 3.8x optical vs my 10x? that seems pretty cheap on their part.

The sensors on those cameras are far larger than standard compact cameras though they are still a bit smaller than those of DSLR's. To get the same kind of zoom the lenses would have to be huge.

I was unable to get a Z-series for $130 back in November, 2009.

I wished I could, but my M1093 seems to be doing fine.
