Air flow in box

Hi

I had some expansion slots open so i decided to cover them. My motherboard temp went up by 4 degrees celcius and my cpu and gpu a couples of degrees.

As soon as i removed the tape on the expansion slots my temps dropped again, i have an air intake fan but it seems i have better air flow with the expansion slots open :-)

Looks like your case has positive pressure.

Whats the issue?

No, far from it. Most cases today are moving towards a "screen porch" design where the case is able to take in a lot of ambient air.

The dust'll get there anyways. I have filters on all my intakes and I still clean my computer once every 3 months or so

How well do those filters work? How much do they reduce airflow?

Dust is an issue in my PC...we have 4 dogs (soon to be 3 ) and 7 cats so yea...

they catch a good bit...keep the dust bunnies down a little, makes cleaning out dust quicker when I do it since most collects on the filters.

I know what you mean, I have the Cooler Master HAF-932 and the wife has the Antec 1200. I ended up taking the filters out of her Antec because they where clogging up so fast where we live in a dusty area and have pets. I just cleaned my sig system out yesterday, I have always used the dust out cans but got tired of paying for that so this last time rather than buying more I just fired up the compressor and lowered the pressure and cleaned it out. Worked a lot better than the cans anyway.

I wish I could go that long between cleanings on mine, at best I can maybe make it two months and they are ready to be cleaned again. I would have left the filters in the Antec 1200 if they would have made an easier way to clean them, maybe access from the front rather than having to take the sides off to loosen the screws to slide it forward. Heck by that point you are already inside and have access to cleaning the rest of it easier.

Dust is becoming more of an issue. Our rigs make more heat than before, thus more cooling/fannage. You want a fast powerful rig?

Clean it out more often. As life gets more complicated, you spend even more time keeping it complicated. My 386 didn't need cleaned evey few months..........

I also payed $36 for ONE megabyte of ram. And ONE dollar for ONE megabyte of HD space. I was happy with 8 bit color games.... Now? Ack.........

You live with it. You try and keep the filters clean.

When you say cleaning, is there much more to it than grabbing a can of compressed air and having at it? Or is it a whole process?

Pretty much just some compressed air and clean the filters, wipe down the inside surfaces with a damp cloth to get the dust up, clean the fan blades, things like that.

Put it through the dish washer.... Its a good sign that you have positive pressure though! That alone may mean dust just makes its way out and is not a huge issue...

Dishwasher'll break fanblades and ruin fan motors methinks...it's fine for mobos though (protect the pins)
