New Phenom x6 Build

Hi all, no I'm not the Whitehawk you know on these forums, I get emails from eVGA and found out about Protein Folding. I used my character name from EverQuest for this and found out there was a Whitehawk on here, so I added EQ to my user name for Folding

My systems are:
Athlon XP 2000+ MSI 3 gig mem station for tape and LP restoration.
Athlon 64 3000+ ABIT AV8 4 gig mem main system for most every thing else.
HP Laptop dv8309us 2 gig mem.
Phenom II Black Edition 1090T X6 CPU, Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H, 4 gig mem (under construction).

I don't have the money to build farms like some of you or the space I don't plan on trying to out do anyone but would like to contribute to the team.

Here are some pics of my Phenom II system I'm building.

Welcome to Team32, nice rig ( those HAF cases are great).
I just ordered a 1090T to fold and test on so I'll be joining you soon on the Hex cores.
Check your MOBO specs but I think you want the dimms in the two slots farthest from the CPU to get dual channel. A quick run of CPUZ will tell you if it's on 1 or 2 channels.

It's correct

the blue sockets are DDR3-1 & DDR3-3=1 channel
white sockets are DDR3-2 & DDR3-4=2nd channel

You are correct, my brain-fart. I now have to shut one of my rigs down and fix it. Back in the day we had boards that used 1+2 or 3+4 to get DC.

I've seen new MB's at Fry's that still use 1+2 and 3+4 as well as 1+3 and 2+4 this past Sunday.

Hate to reference another forum, but OCN has a CPU PPD and a GPU PPD database. I'm usually too lazy to google examples, so I'll just reference their database.

I just cranked up my 1090T tonight ripping through a gromacs 6073 at under 4 mins a frame. These are running about 20 mins a frame on my duals which are at 3-3.2 ghz

An i7 rips through that WU in just under 3:00/frame, for comparison (if not slowed by a gpu). So don't rule that option out.

Good to know ChasR.Thank you.Unfortunately it seems my server company does offer anything better than the Q8200S I already have.Oh well...It's still pumping out a lot of points as it is.

One of these days (I need a month off) I'd like to take the data from HFM clients and input it directly into a web site where it can be viewed by all. No need for manual data gathering. The largest problem is getting accurate machine information for the remotely (even by UNC folder share) monitored clients. Maybe the v7 client will change the game. Must wait and see...

Well it's quite useless to have multiple cores when the programs don't have a proper shutdown sequence. It's what P***ed me off the last time I folded. If you ^c the program it is considered abnormal termination. Is there a proper command to tell the client to shutdown on next opportunity? I cut it off to adjust fans and reboot now it's dragging at 10 mins a frame UNACCEPTABLE!

Do you have a place to host the site? if not I can give you the remote desktop info to install it on my Dallas based server to create a site or move it for free no problem. In fact as far as f@h is concerned and Team 32 I would allow free hosting of any kind for it.the server runs Windows server 2003 64 bit at the moment.

Send me 1500 bucks and we'll build it to fold.
Cost of a AMD the rig is about 1/3 of that.

Ctrl-C is the right way to do it. I've got almost all of mine running as a service and I just shut the machine down without stopping the client. Seems to work fine.

Something else, unrelated to shuting down the client is likely the culprit in the slowdown. Is it the same Wu or did you happen to pick up a p6701 or p6702?
