Shim Question

Ok I'm new at this deal im going to water cool a socket 370 p3 1 GHz, i've been doing my homework on it and people recommend to place a shim on the processor so you dont crack it and it helps protect it, my question is, do you use thermal glue / paste to attach the shim or do you simply just lay it on top of the chip and "sandwich" it with the waterblock?
Thanks in advance

You don't have to use anything on the shim. I would probably use some cheep thermal goop just to keep it in place but it isn't needed.

id always say no goop at all. just lay it on there .and samwich it.
u wont get no if any heat dissapation by adding it. and if amd people see us talking about adding thermal compound on shims i can see blue smoke questions in the cpu area!

good luck and just use bare imho
