PSU and gtx 570

I'm looking to buy a gtx 570. it needs a 550watt psu and at least 36 amps on the 12v rail.

my psu is antec atx12v v2.3. in the description is says
+5v 26A
+12v1 22A
+12v2 22A
+12v3 25A

+3.3v 28A
-12v 0.5A
+5Vsb 2.5A

i dont know much about psu's. so since i need 2 6pin pci-e connectors to give power to the card, does that mean that i'm getting a total of 44Amps??

basically, is my psu ok to take this or no?

yes, it is ok to use this psu.

the card needs 36 amps split between the two 6 pin connectors and the ower supplied by the pci-e slot.

Your psu has three 12v rails, each will carry part of the 36amp load.

you are pushing the limits of your PSU, do not try to overclock

Yikes...First, we need to know which specific PSU you have. An Antec does not help much. However, the breakdown of rails is a bit helpful. Please list your PSU (link from newegg would be best) as well as your system specs.

With looking at the breakdown though, you are likely just fine no matter what, even with overclocking, but please list the PSU and your system specs.

Another thing to note, the CARD does not need 36A itself. That rating is for the SYSTEM. And depending on how the PSU is setup if its a true tri rail PSU, the load will NOT be shared across the three rails if it a true 3 rail CPU! Please be careful about the accuracy of the information we share!

it won't be shared exactly evenly, but the load will be spread on different rails, i do believe one rail will be going to the mobo and the other two spread out on different connectors.

"true 3 rail CPU", never heard of that, could you explain please.

Some multi rail CPU's are not a true multi rail. Meaning that any one rail can handle the load of the entire 12v so in essence it doesnt matter what rails you want to put it on when its shared anyway. On the other hand if its a true multi rail PSU, then it only gets what the rail allows. You have to read good reviews to see which one is which.

yes, deathbolang, your power supply is good for that card, with about 100 watts to spare. You still have enough power left to overclock or do some modest upgrades, but adding a second video card to your system is out of the question. When you have a question like this, you should start a new thread, rather than posting in someone else's, you'll get better responses and not tick off the person who started the thread either.
