Hello everyone. I've reached that point where I'm starting to pay more attention to minimum system requirements than I feel comfortable with when purchasing software, so a new build is upon me. Been lurking a while, trying to get a handle on all that's changed since my last build. Appreciate all the help given thus far by those that may not have intended it :D.

Have a budget round $1000, and this system will be used almost exclusively for gaming.

Here's where I'm at thus far. I would appreciate any comments, criticism or testimonials on the following build. I'd also appreciate any areas I could cut back in, as I'm a tad over budget (which was expected). I've not been much of an oc'er... but I'm not ruling it out at this point.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz
BIOSTAR TA890FXE AM3 AMD 890FX
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
SAPPHIRE 100311SR Radeon HD 6970 2GB 256-bit
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W
COOLER MASTER HAF 912
Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gbs

Thank you for your time.

well if i were you id wait for the LGA1155 socket to arrive and build something out of that :D
even if you don't want the LGA1155 when its released into the stores the others(lga 1156 and 1366) will probably have a price drop

Appreciate the advice. Did decide to wait it out... Old build above shifted up $100 after the discounts shifted :bang head... but I think it worked out better. I feel this is a better system for about $100 more. (Still trying to figure that one out).

I'm about $5 over my budget... which I can deal with. But would still appreciate any comments/recommendations on the build below.

CPU - Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
To quote another thread i read here... Heart said 2600k, mind said 2500k.

MOBO - ASUS P8P67 PRO LGA 1155

Memory - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600
Upped it a bit form the CAS 9 to the CAS 7... is this worth $20?

SSD - OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G 2.5" 60GB
Buddy at work sold me on this for the OS as the most significant upgrade you can make. Worth it to throw in if you're a bit under budget? (This is where the extra $100 went) Or money better spent elsewhere?

HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX 500GB 7200 RPM
Basically it just stores games. I've a much smaller one now and have never had a problem... until I discovered steam sales.. that is...

GPU - EVGA 012-P3-1570-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB
Always skimped on GPU's and made it a priority not to do that this time. Somewhere I got it in my mind that you use AMD/ATI with AMD CPUs and NVIDIA with Intel. Not sure where I picked that up... or if there's even a bit of truth to it...

PSU - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V
Adequate?

Case - COOLER MASTER HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 Black

OS - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - OEM
For strictly a gaming machine... any use for Prof?

Thanks
