Thumbs up Is This a Dumb Idea ???

I have an ASUS GTS 250 1G Dark Knight video card. I like it it does well for my needs, ALMOST!

If I am playing games it sounds like a leaf blower on my back. It is just sooooooooooooooo damn loud.

So I did some snooping and found out it has a 70 mm fan on its heat sink.

So I think it has a good heat sink already but i am wondering if it is possible to remove the fan and attach a 92mm fan over it. It would be on the raised part of the heat sink (the wings). However I am not sure if it is a good idea.

I have seen after market coolers that use heat pipes and bigger fans, so I think the heatsink I have may be good enough. Plus I am on a seriously limited budget at the moment. But I can swing $20 bucks.

So my questions are these;

1) Can this be done?

2) Is there a certain type of fan that I should be using for a video card? ( pwm, normal, thermistor, etc...)

3)Does anyone have any experience doing this, and can you provide as much insight as possible?

4) How bad is this idea in your opinion?

5) Should I be concerned with the fan being mounted on the wings, could it adversly affect the cooling?

Last and most importantly, Thank you for any input you may have, if none, then I appreciate your time for reading my small book.

a pic would be sweet to see if you can get it, thank you. I dont think i can fit 2 120mm fans on the card inside this small case. However 2 92mm might be possible.

I could really use an answer on my question #2. I think i should be looking for pwm fans but want to be sure.

Keep it coming, this is what I need to see in order to make this work, the help is SOOO appreciated believe me, again ty all.

I checked I don't have any pics from that long ago ( there might be some on the forums here somewhere ) .

Pretty sure you could get 2 120s on there if you overlap over the side a bit. If not 1 120 would be fine ( and 120s are not as hard on your ears as a 82mm would be )

as to the fan you could use any you want pick your flavor
