Upgrading from my P4. First build.- It's been awhile. ;) This is what I am thinking...

Intel® Core™ i5 2400

Asus P8P67
CPU Socket:
Intel® Socket 1155

Memory:
4 x DIMM, Max. 32 GB, DDR3 2200(O.C.)*/2133(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600/1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel memory architecture
Supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)
* According to Intel® SPEC, the Max. 32GB memory capacity can be supported with DIMMs of 8GB (or above). ASUS will update QVL once the DIMMs are available on the market.
* Hyper DIMM support is subject to the physical characteristics of individual CPUs. Some hyper DIMMs only support one DIMM per channel. Please refer to Memory QVL for details.
* Due to CPU behavior, DDR3 2200/2000/1800 MHz memory module will run at DDR3 2133/1866/1600 MHz frequency as default.

Video:
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (single at x16)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 * (max. at x4 mode [Black])
2 x PCIe 2.0 x1
3 x PCI
*The PCIEX16_2 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX1_1 slot, PCIEX1_2 slot and USB3_34 connector. The PCIEX16_2 runs at x1 mode by default for system resource optimization.

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series - 4GB (2 x 2GB) | DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

XFX Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT)

Interface: PCI Express 2.0 x16

WD VelociRaptor 150GB - SATA 3.0

CORSAIR 750W - ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready

Dual Dell U2211H 21.5 inch Flat Panel Display's

I think everything should work together fine, I just want to double check, and see if anyone had any words of wisdom or warnings if I did something wrong.-haha. Do you think it will be easy to get one of these cpu's + mobo's when microcenter first opens? I am debating about ordering all the stuff tomorrow, and then going for the motherboard and cpu when it releases. Only drawback is the drive to microcenter.

Oh, I don't game at all- I haven't picked up a game in years now.- I know, it's bad. Anyways, mainly for a work machine that uses Photoshop, Lightroom, & Misc. Web Development Tools.

All, I do is slap it on together? Plug it all in and power up? Install my OS.

Scratch the Velociraptor, the WD Caviar Blacks are (almost) just as fast. If you need blazing speed, get a small SSD for your OS, but new generations of those are coming out soon, so I'd stick to just the WD Black for now.

No overclocking on that CPU, but you probably know that.

You might want a better video card, 8GB of RAM (for Photoshop), and you would need a quality 550w PSU at most. Budget?

Budget: $1300
Duel Dell Monitors: $390.60

New Budget: $909.40

I was looking at a CoolMaster case, that I didn't include because I thought it would be pointless, the form factor is ATX. $139.98

If I don't swap the case out, that will give me a budget of $769.42 for CPU, Mobo, RAM, GFX, & HD

I was ~ 1224.12 with how I had it configured above.

I already had a CORSAIR 750W PSU picked out?- That should work right?

CPUs:
Intel Core i5 2400 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor for $149.99
Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor for $179.99
Intel Core i7 2600 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor for $249.99
Intel Core i7 2600K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor for $279.99

Haha, yeah, I meant that you could drop to a Corsair 550VX to save money.
What I would do:
Drop the case, get a CM 690 Advanced, saves you around $60 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...119216&cm_re=cm_690_II-_-11-119-216-_-Product)
Grab two kits of that memory, extra $50
Drop to a 1TB WD Caviar Black, saves $10

Use the saved $20 plus the rest of your budget to upgrade your video card to a 6850/6870.

Your first upgrade would be a new generation SSD when they come out, probably around 60GB for Windows, Photoshop, and other frequently used apps.

You want to build with the 2600K chip. It's more expensive but it's unlocked. Significantly over 4Ghz stable has been reported. 5 @ stupid high voltage. Apparently on Sandybridge you overclock the turbo on the CPU. It runs at stock until it is significantly under load, then switches to your selected overclock turbo frequency. I've read that only Intel's 1155 mobos have solid bios right now. That doesn't mean you should necessarily buy one it's just good to know. Odds are everyone else's bios will be solid in a month with updates anyways.
