Minidisplay port to dvi

I'm thinking of buying 3 1080p monitors for eyefinity. I understand I need an active displayport, what I'm not understanding is if a passive adapter works as long as it only supports up to 1080p, like this one.

If this won't work can you suggest something cheap that will?

If you are using three monitors for eyefinity, then you'll either need one of them connected to the DP directly, or via an active DP adapter. The passive ones simply will not work, unfortunately. The cheapest one I've found is this one, but it's out of stock currently.

The easiest solution is to either purchase displays that accept DP input as a source, or use less than three monitors. (A DP is not required if you're only going with two monitors.)

So I'll have to use this?

Seems weird buying a cable that's over 25% the cost of a monitor lol.

Yup -- if you want it to work

I agree, the price of the active ones are crazy. Perhaps it'd be cheaper to find a monitor that takes a DP input?

The monitor's I'm looking at are about $100 each. So in total it's about $330 which isn't really that bad. I just keep hearing mixed results about adapters working at 1080p or under.

The best prices I usually find for stuff like this is at monoprice

http://www.monoprice.com/products/se...Adaper&x=0&y=0

Might want to take a peek at those selections. Not a lot cheaper, but a little.

Monoprice is awesome, I'm a big fan.

Only thing is, those are passive, and won't work for Eyefinity.

Correct. You don't need a powered active display port adapter, but it does need to be active.

The sapphire and powercolor ones work great. Those monoprice cables, while a good price, are not active.

Also... the first link you posted is a mini displayport found on macs, you just need a normal one.
