These past few days I've been setting the old rig back up.

What would be my best choise in regards of performance? Are my temps ok, should I go further? And why is it that I can't boot in AHCI mode? "Detecting port..." and it's just simply stuck, unless I go back to IDE mode. Will IDE VS ACHI make a big difference?

ASUS P5E
Q6600 G0 (Vid 1.2125) OCed 3.4GHz/1.3V 9x377 & 8x425 - Max temp: 52C after 5 hours of prime95 and 5 hours with occt.

I've been doing some testing and found out that using the Rampage BIOS actually was the slowest. I did the test with 1 ATI Card. Poor old 550watt can't take crossfire pressure. Doing a PSU swap this week.

Example of running 3DMark06 and a benchmark test of resident evil 5.

Now to the problem.
I want to be able to use ACHI. This works well with the P5E BIOS. While both maximus and rampage only gives me the "detecting port...0" problem.

Is there any way to fix this somehow? I want the speed/performance gain from the Maximus BIOS but still use AHCI. I haven't been able to do any benchmark tests with AHCI and i'm very curious to find out the difference between ahci and ide.

Could anyone point me in the right direction?

I noticed recently I could do 3.4GHz at only 1.28V. But anything from 1.3+ and forward gives me very high CPU temps, nearly ~60-65 at full load.

The only settings in bios i've changed are multiplier, 8 or 9. FSB 425 or 377. And memory voltage to 1.9.

Anything I could change besides that to lower the temps more and maybe reach 3.8 like "all" the others? :)

Temporarily disconnect the 2 x 2TB WD20EARS HDDs, then reset the ICH9R controller mode to AHCI to check for a successful POST w/ only the SSD connected.

That was both informative and confusing as to why it actually would work out that way.
