Im lost how does creating a partion on the SSD make the seperate raptor HDD recognized by the system???
I'm confused on why you are confused. The article states to open disk management and format the drive that is not showing up. This has nothing to do with the SSD.

so change it into primary and assign it a drive letter

dont do that, Keep your SSD for the OS which is what im assuming your setup is.
the quick way to get to the disk manager is as follows

Start> type comp management in search bar>enter> storage>disk management
from there select (disk 0 should be your ssd) Disk 1 (it should have a triangular caution sign with an !) right click on it and select convert to basic if its detected as foreign

then select create simple volume

assign a Letter of your choice and have it set to NTFS as exfat is outdated

as for unit allocation if your gonna have big files set it to 64K but if youre gonna have a mixture set it around 16K

He isn't saying to switch the mechanical to the OS drive, he is saying to switch the type on it...
