hey guys.. im buying a new desktop soon. i was wondering which of these graphic cards is the best.. these are the only ones available in my area

Gtx 560 ti fpb
http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=01G-P3-1561-AR&family=GeForce 500 Series Family&sw=

Asus gtx 470
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=hs87bcOLPd9irXRk&templete=2

Asus 6870
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=HtuZg3hlM5iz8Bag&templete=2

His 6950
http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-576.shtml

i wont be overclocking my card as i dont want to shorten its life or risk it :p
so which of these will be best suited to me.. but im open to any suggestions that wont lead to destruction of my card

my choice of mobo is
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=Qx3PdnZI9Pq9BcIU

and core i7 processor
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37150

Overclocking will not at all shorten the life of anything if temps are good. I would suggest the 6950 only if you will unlock it to a 6970. If not then you would want to get a GTX 560 and overclock to a good solid 1ghz. If you don't want to overclock then Gigabyte will do it for you http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125362 this card is pre overclocked and warranty backed by Gigabyte. The is GTX 570 performance. You can wait for Newegg to get more or buy it from here http://www.provantage.com/gigabyte-technology-gv-n560so-1gi~7GIG90H9.htm. It's a Gigabyte SOC GTX 560, very fast and runs cool and quiet, that would be my suggestion.
Also that Motherboard isn't compatible with that CPU

What are the stakes if i convert 6950 to 6970..
and also what are the risks involved in overclocking gtx 560

also asus claims they boost performance upto 50% with their voltage tweak so isnt asus powered gtx 470 good enough ?

and nvidia card specs show memory bandwidth >100 gb/s while amd cards are 4-5 gb/s... what is think..
sorry im a bigtime noob at gpus :p this is my first big card.. and hopefully last xD so im trying to make the best pick

Not "quite" true :p

I'm going to say go for the 560 though.

What are the risks? Well you're basically forcing a card to do something it wasn't designed to do. It might not be stable and issues may crop up. I don't think there has been long enough for any effects to show themselves.

What risks are there involved with OCing a 560? If you do it correctly not many. I have my 460 running at 820 core and 1220 memory. This is quite a bit higher than the stock but I'm not having any issues.

You'll want to make sure when overclocking the software is reading the correct temperature. If the software says 60 degrees but the chip is actually reaching 100 degrees it's going to damage itself. Also if you run the memory to fast and (/or?) to hot it will become corrupt and you will get a lot of artifacts and the card will be unusable.

As long as you're careful and clever about it there's little to no risk although overclocking it (even if the temps stay the same) will shorten the lifespan of the card.

I had my 5770 at 1ghz for 8 months at 1.3v and it never went above 60c and it's still running fine. Don't be scared of overclocking. I've crashed my 6970 30 times for going for 1050mhz overlocks and it's still fine (I was benchmarking). The only way your card will brick if temps are going to be massively high for the GPU, RAM and VRM's.

Converting a 6950 to a 6970 has pretty much no risk at all. If you do it wrong, it will always have a back-up BIOS you can return to. I did it and it was the best decision I made. I'm getting near GTX 580 performance in my games for only $280. You also aren't forcing the card to do something it's not meant to. The GPU has all the shaders, they are just disabled. Your just enabling the full potential of that card. The thing is you have to UNLOCK it, which is different then flashing to a 6970 BIOS. Flashing to a 6970 can cause problems because it uses different memory and the voltage will be increased. Unlocking it just simply unlocks the missing shaders from the GPU. It's really easy and I can help you do it.

For overclocking the GTX 560 there are no risks if temps are good. Everyone with any model has pretty much gotten to 1ghz with that thing, even the reference, you'll just have to raise the voltage which is perfectly safe. Gigabyte makes a version of the card with a custom cooler and it comes pre overclocked to 1ghz. That means you don't have to do anything and the warranty covers it completely. I linked it to my first post.

In conclusion, if you want the best performance for your dollar then go the 6950 and unlock route. If you are scared then go the Gigabyte SOC GTX 560. Don't be scared of overclocking at all, most cards are made for it. You won't brick your card or damage it, just don't go to crazy with it lie I do :) And for the Asus GTX 470 voltage boost of 50% performance, that is completely BS, it will overclock higher because of voltage tweaking but every card pretty much has that and the performance gained will only be 10-15%. Plus it a GF100 card which sucks period.

ok so i have 2 versions of 6950

one is his and the other is xfx version which should i get

I got my 6950 from Sapphire... Also own a Zotac GTX570 and an XFX 5670... What I mean is; just go by the one that is cheaper while still giving you the features you're looking for.

XFX has lifetime warranty so that is a plus for them.

also how many watts should the psu be

I run my 6950 + 955BE on a Corsair VX450W PSU without problems, but since you're going with the i7 cpu (draws more power than my AMD cpu)... I'd say go for something like the Corsair TX650. That one should be more than enough to run your HW.

But make sure it's a 2gb reference model, anything else won't unlock to a 6970. I have Sapphire as my brand and it works fine. AMD makes all these cards, the vendors just brand it as their own so their really isn't any internal difference apart from how good the vendor's warranty and support is. I'd prefer XFX over HIS but both are just fine.

how do i know if its the reference model..

also my budget is not that high..
so i was wondering.. wether processors effect gaming that much.. like core i5 instead of i7.. how much will that effect my gaming output..
also how does an expensive motherboard really matter ? or any mobo that supports my processor is good enough

how is amd pehnom ll compared to core i7 950
i know wrong thread.. but i got the right peopl.e here guiding me

I say build an AMD system and get a 6 core processor or go Intel and get an i5 but from Sandy bridge. CPU's don't do too much, really you just don't want them to bottleneck your graphics card. If the card looks like this http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/amd-radeon-hd-6970-overview.aspx then it's reference. I use this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102914 as my card that I unlcoked. Any of the other will do just fine.

AMD Phenom is a better value than Intel but Intel has better performance, and you don't need a crazy good motherboard but you can't go cheap. What's your budget for the whole rig?

Provantage doesnt have any in stock; if you click add to cart you get this:

IMPORTANT: You are adding a product to your shopping cart that is marked SPECIAL ORDER. Please be aware that special order items can take as long as 3 to 4 weeks to be delivered.
In addition, because the item is not currently in stock, there is a possibility that it has been discontinued. We advise that you verify this product's status with the manufacturer before you complete your purchase.

But I also find this to be the best bang for your buck.

+1 for warranty plug.

Yes it is and for your system you should probably go with an AMD 6 core system or maybe Sandybridge with an i5. Both will do just fine for gaming and performance will pretty much be dead even.

motherboards dont show if they support ddr5 or not.. how do i know it will support 6950
