I have a relatively old Dell Dimension 2300 and I need it to be faster just until I can afford a new desktop, its a little project of mine.. from the information I've collected the motherboard is too old and cheap to have an over-clock option in the bios. I've tried software to no avail, so I'm posting upon this for last ditch effort ideas. I do not look forward to spending money, although knowing I will have to sooner or later.

Welcome to the forums Zanzabar.

I don't know if you have already taken this step, but formatting and reinstalling your OS will greatly increase even old computers' speed.

Also use google Chrome for your browsing to help save RAM.

Check what files are starting up with the OS, by running msconfig.

Defrag your harddrive, a good free program is DeFraggler.

Other than that I usually gain more speed by threatening the computer with the Big hammer :)

lol, I'm no noob on the computer, my schools administration knows me by ip, lol. I am currently using Chrome and i did install windows xp fresh. defrag and all. i use ccleaner to stop everything but avaist on start up. i was just wondering if there was any other option to my problem. thank you though!!
