X2 560 ASUS M4A87TD USB3 Core unlock Graphics glitch

Ok, I have read a lot ablut unlockig problems, everything relates back to stability, boot problems, posting problems, etc. I have graphics issues. At first build I did have stability issues that I thought were unlocking related, however, I found that the MB did not automatically set the memory at 1600, where ASUS had it tested. Once that was fixed, no stability issues.

However I do get wierd text and graphics issues... windows login screen is black... vs blue

w in dows tex thas th is w ierd sp aci ng iss ues

I also get a lot of glitchy graphics rendering it useless.

I tried unlocking via the unlock switch, enabiling in the bios and still had same issues. I also tried to set it to manual and only unlock cores 1 and 2 which I assume would be the same as standard load but I had the same graphics issues. As soon as I disable core unlocking... all issues resolved.

I know core unlocking is never guarenteed, but I was not able to run:

1234
123
124
or
12

I could only run disable core unlocking which uses cores 1,2 I assume.

System:
Winwons 7 Pro 64 bit
AMD Phenom II Black X2560
Asud M4A87TD USB3
Corsair DDR3 1600
Geforce GT240 SC 512MB DDR5 (superclocked)
WD 1TB Black 6gbs SATA

I bought the video card as a cheap solution since the board did not have a video out. Are there problems with unlocking cores and certain video cards?

At a loss here but appreciate any help. I am just confused as I can't seem to find anyone else with similar issues.

I left all other settings on the MB at spec.

PSU is

XIGMATEK ACXTNRP-PC602 600W ATX12V Ver.2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

I Know not the best unit, but it seemed sufficient at the time. I can tell you one thing.. next time I am going only with a modular... hiding all those extar cables is a hassle.

I have not tweaked the voltage at all. I added a big cooler, so I could.. I think the CPU temp was very low. What would be a "little" increase?

Is it running in Safe Mode?

to OCF!

Try manually setting the vCore to 1.40 and the cpuNB voltage to 1.15. If that doesn't work try 1.175 on the cpuNB.

You might also consider adding 0.05v to the RAM voltage.

Well with my 560 i tried everything lol. voltage increase everything. All 4 cores pass prime 95 after 24 hours, But some reason the 4th core hates browsing the web, ill get pink stuff all over pictures like my video card is messing up but when u disable the 4th core it fixes that problem. The 3rd core works great but it does not like certain games lol. Rift being one of them it pummels it and then it restarts on me.

So finally after trying and trying i just gave up decided I'm just not lucky lol. But still for 99 bucks and a free mobo from microcenter can't go wrong. 4.1ghz right now stable but i have to run it at 1.5v or during heavy gaming like rift (which generally uses 80% or more of both cores and 90-95% gpu usage lol) it will restart and from waht i found in my logs etc lack of power to the cpu.

Anyway great cpu at 4.1 to me it's a champ for the price. But i think i need to upgrade already lol.

Playing rift almost full blast with ventrilo on when a million people get talking on vent along with some huge rift boss battle 50+ or more people on screen my machine just goes POOF! lol When i check the usage during stuff like that i max out at 100% on both cores basicly everything maxes out if i turn vent off i'm ok tho.

NEED MORE CORES!

Anyway i'll stop rambling. Good luck with your core unlocking.

Not same mobo/cpu, but having similar issues... I have an Athlon X3 450 on an AsRock N68-S3-UCC (budget build); when 4th core enbled, I get sound cracking, windows 7 aero disabled and weird graphic issues in games (characters missing clothes, limbs etc.).

I have played with voltages, bios settings and what not...but no go. The weird thing is that the system passes more than 24h in prime95 without any errors on any of the 4 cores. So the 4th core seems to be functional... Temps are fine, max 47C during all this time - 4 120mm case fans (2 intake + 2 out) and a Cooler Master Hyper TX3 in push-pull config.

The question is: could it be the motherboard's fault? There are a few reasons I can assume so:
- mobo specs say it supports CPU with a max TDP of 95W, and the cpu in default state is rated at 95. When unlocked, the cpu reaches about 120W (according to HWMonitor); maybe the motherboard can't cope with this difference?
- even in normal condition, mobo's chipset is quite hot... Seing that the chipset (nForce 630a) manages PCI Express and audio output, maybe extreme overheating when unlocking causes these issues?

If only I had other mobo to test unlocking of this cpu...I would know which of them needs replacing

You might try taking the side off of the case and/or putting a fan aimed at the motherboard to see if it still does it. It was a long time ago but the old nforce2 boards used to do that with a high fsb clock until better cooling was applied to the motherboard.

Same motherboard similar issues

Ok here goes!

I have the same mobo, G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666), and AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2GHz for my processor.

I am having VERY similar issues as the OP, in that I get the same graphical issues, however I cant even get the thing to install windows. I keep getting a floating point error before it actually even begins the install. I have tried it on different core setting to no avail. I have even tried installing win 7 from a flash drive and I get "Windows could not continue, installation will resume after restart." Then it restarts and does the same thing.

Please help!

I have always used ASUS mobo's in my personal builds and have never encountered anything like this. I have been building pc's for over ten years and have never encountered this. This one is for my son and I REALLY want it working for him.

Thanks!
