SSD Hang after MOBO upgrade

I just upgraded to a Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5. I changed the drive to ACHI & Windows 7 hangs on start up screen, Put it back to IDE & it still hangs.

Do you think Ill have to do a full reinstall? Any ideas appreciated, ive tried most ideas for the past 3 hours

Did you uninstall the storage and chipset drivers before you switched the motherboard?

Go here and read how to enable ACHI after win 7 is installed , you might also want to try to boot into safe mode and do a system restore .

Reg fix fixed it, then I noticed USB 3.0 external drive not recognized. Got the drive working again & system hangs

Turned off the drive & boots up fine. So is the external WD mybook 2TB causing the hang. I have tried lots of fixes. Only turning it off works.
