Commodore 64 is back!

I ran into this earlier today... Oh man did this bring memories from my childhood days! I was 12 when I got mine in 1984 and enjoyed the hell out of it for years until I was given an Atari 130XE as an upgrade.

Recreating the Legendary Commodore 64
It's back... and better than ever! The new Commodore 64 is a modern functional PC as close to the original in design as humanly possible. It houses a modern mini-ITX PC motherboard featuring a Dual Core 525 Atom processor and the latest Nvidia Ion2 graphics chipset. It comes in the original taupe brown/beige color, with other colors to follow.

What a joke. 895 for a frickin atom/ion system.
Commodore went down the crapper gradually after Jack T left in 83 I think. Amiga good. Marketing bad. Then Amiga forgot what it was supposed to be and shot itself in the head around 1989-90.

This new C64 thing is really an embarassment to the name of a computer that I grew up with. This would be cool if some guy made them in his garage. That it's COMMODORE is offensive IMO.

The used C64 would run you 10-25 bucks, so assuming you already have a skillsaw and a router, a little more like $200. But ya, the asking price = .

Cuzz you know they literally went into the warehouse where the 500,000 unsold C64's were from 1985 and started cutting.

They tried bringing back the amiga too... It was a PC with some Linux based crapp...

Commodore is being run by crackheads.

I thought they were just selling you a PC capable of running the C64 emulator?

Super Apple. Apple charges you 3x what they should. This is the new and improved 5x what they should version.

A pocket scientific calculator could probably do that if it had VGA out

Really guys?
You could build me a system with a $170 motherboard (+$40 for WiFi daughtercard), $70 DDR3, $40 DVD burner, $20 media reader, $xx IBM keyboard (rare), AND bundle an OS and game package with case and power supply all for around $100-200????

You have a deal!, but don't forget the harddrive, cables and HSF either!

Old Joke: If a bum asks you for 25¢ for a cup of coffee...give it to him and then follow him!
BTW, those are new cases, not just hacked originals. Notice the bump-outs around the I/O and fan?

+1 to what Diggrr said...

My post was not so much about the pricing structure of the thing, but about the fact that it brought back such sweet memories from when I was a young one learning my way around Basic and stuff...

I would not pay $900 for one of them, but it did make me think about trying to find my old one and maybe modding a miniITX into it myself.....

You guys are so jaded you can't see the nostalgia aspect of it... Or who knows, maybe some of you weren't even born when these things first came out.

Oh look its the Commodore VIC20
http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_VICPro.aspx

I'll stick with my regular computer and pull out the old Commodore 64 when I want nostalgia. On that note: funniest post ever

Wait, I get it...this is an April Fool from Commodore!

A week late because it took that long to load...LOL

Lolz, my first computer was a Commodore PET, which coincidentally cost more than $900...and I had to write my own games in BASIC!
