Prime stable for days.. 124 BSOD when idle...

title basically says it..

can run prime blend or small fft for days, but when the computer sits idle.. it 124's... c states are off.. all power saving features disabled. as long as it's loaded.. things are great.. i've never had a problem like this...

let the Q&A begin..

What's the vcore at load, and what's the vcore at idle?

atm it's 1.385 @ load, 1.4 flat at idle.. did the same thing after a bout 2 weeks of "stability" before at 1.72v load 1.39idle after i had to shut down F@H to mess with my VM.. it seems my computer is stable under load.. and not at idle..

Lower the overclock, itll go away. I had the SAME issue. I dropped the overclock to 4.5ghz and no problems. I could play games all day long, prime95 all day long, linx all day, but idling it would BSOD, make no sense.

I got so frustrated I lowered the clock and it magically made it all better. Ive yet to figure it out or understand.

124 is "paged_fault_in_non_paged_area" right? I would begin to wonder about the stability of your ram.

It's cpu related error for SB, usually happens when cpu voltage is too low. Even if cpu is in idle then one of cores can hit max clock for short time as it's never 0% load.
Try to set different LLC or check PLL voltage +/- 1 step.
Offset option with C states enabled is more stable from what I noticed.

124 can also be vvt related. Not sure on SB but from a handful of comments 124 could still be either vcore or vvt.

Before you do the below P95 stress go get HyperPi and see if it completes 32M digits without and error or bsod. HyperPi is what I use when I want to know if I even stand a chance when it comes to LinX, IBT, P95, etc.

I prefer to not only run Small FFTs but also the reverse equivalent:
1) From the main screen where you can select "Small FFTs", "Blend", etc select "Custom"
2) Set FFTs minimum to 512, maximum to 4096
3) If selected, uncheck "Run FFTs in place"
4) Open up task manager and enter (roughly) the most ram you can in to the field "Memory to use"

I set the maximum memory use by adding the current system usage plus 500MB. Vista and 7 will dump cached memory when it starts loading up to the max.

I concur...memory stability is suspect

I got this to go away by raising VccIO thanks to someone on the forums...1.17 fixed it.

I lowered vcore 2 steps even and still no issues.

I somehow missed this post, I never have came back to this issue on mine, due to time/frustration, I have a week off coming up after this one though so i plan on re-visiting this problem.

You were having the same issue i described?

Going to give this a shot. I increased VccIO to 1.15v and it didnt help previously. Will try going a little higher I guess see if it helps.

my issue came back...idle freezes it was the ram set at 1T at stock voltage!....set it to 2T and that really fixed it. (sigged ram). Gskill said to raise voltage up to 1.65 for ocing!.... no issues for days, so I will now ramp up memory and voltage and see what I can get away with....

Well interestingly enough, It looks like I am on the right path to making my problem go away too.. currently testing back up to 4.6, but enabling c states and speed step have seemed so far to have corrected my "idle" error's.

Had this on my i7 970 and a couple bumps in vcore seems to have fixed it. Was Prime stable for days and ITBT stable for 20 runs. Revisited ITBT to find that after about 50 or so runs it's fail. vcore up to 1.33 (4GHz) got me through 120 runs of ITBT and other issues have gone away too.

Wow that's a super run of IBT..

I was good at 4.6 for some time(6 days) iirc going through the motions.. finally did have a 124, went in and changed vccio from set 1.05 (which fluctuated according to bios from 1.039 to 1.089 ) to AUTO setting. So far I'm working on day# 4 so time will tell.

edit:// thinking now that 120 runs of IBT dont sound to bad, prime small fft get's mine hotter.. and i'm not quite satisfied with my loop temps although they are well withing spec.. we'll se what happens
