Question Memory timings

I'm a noob at this thing so I don't know if I should change my timings or not.
Any suggestions?

Try changing some. And run some basic tests like Prime95 and what not. If you start BSOD'ing/getting errors, then it's probably not a good idea to change them XD.

You could also drop one or two of the timings (CAS/CL) usually makes the biggest difference.. Not that you'd honestly notice it. Then run memtest to see if it's stable or not at those settings..

It would be helpful to know what memory you had, as well as the rest of your system specs. Just seeing that particular tab of CPUz doesn't quite give us enough information to say up or down.

+1 to Hokie... What does the SPD tab show?

Its hard to suggest changing anything without knowing where to start from.

Should've showed the SDP in the first place...
Both memorys are the same as the one on the pic(2x512mb).

Im glad you didnt randomly change anything...

Looks like your timings for your sticks are about spot on. Just make sure its getting 1.8v in the bios and you are good to go!

I'm 98% sure theire getting 1,8V.
Investigating things because I plan on getting 2x1024 mb more ram (so I'd have 3GB total).

Should both pairs(DIMM A, B) have the same timings with each other?

They should have the same timings, speed and voltages. Otherwise, I would scrap what you have and just get 2x2GB sticks....

EDIT: Just like Thideras said in that other thread.

Honestly, I'd suggest getting a 2x2G kit if you can afford it and bypassing the potential trouble of stabilizing mis-matched RAM. I've seen numerous people unable to successfully operate different sets of RAM together; and indeed had that trouble myself back in the DDR / Pentium4 days. There is a chance it would work, but I'd skip the question altogether and just upgrade to 4G with two sticks.

But I can also change the 2 gig ones to what my 512mb ones have?

Yes, you can try. Then you'd potentially have 5G of RAM total. However, it is often more ofa headache than it's worth and you might end up just sticking with 2x2G. Plus you can get faster RAM this way and give yourself a little upgrade.

I had this G.Skill set a couple years ago and they treated me quite well. There may be additional tweaking involved in getting them to run their rated speed (FSB / voltage / RAM divider) and whether you can get there -which shouldn't be hard- will depend on the rest of your system.

Well my pc is from 2006 and its a single core so I'm not so sure about wasting too much money on it but I can get the two 1gig sticks for 32€ but if I'm going to replace the old ones then I think I should get this one http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KVR800D2N6_1G.pdf
or the slower one which is I think exactly the same as my current just 1GB
http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KVR667D2N5_1G.pdf
They both cost the same.

Fair enough, forget the speed bump. At the current exchange rates (depending on where you're getting them), this corsair set would go for 41€ (+VAT).

In an older system, especially single core, you'll notice the difference going from 1G to 2G (assuming they don't play well together) and you'd definitely notice going from 1G to 4G. 9€ is a fair price for the difference, if the prices translate to the retailers you have available.

OK then just to make this clear for me I'll buy 2 of the 1GB 667MHz PC2 5300 and add them to the ones I already have which would make 3GB total. And if they don't work together I'll just remove the 512MB ones and stay with 2GB total.
Please confirm.

Yes, you can do just that if you're unable to make the move to 2x2G. Try the 3G configuration and if it doesn't work, then you just remove the 2x512M sticks, leaving you with a still-increased 2x1G capacity.

If you can make the leap to 2x2G though, I think you'd be better off and it would take the guess work out completely. Your machine, your decision.

Got the two 1GB mems (667MHz). Worked perfectly after installation and even the timings are the same between the old and new pairs.
Thanks again!
