Need RAM advice, pls and ty.

I am planning in the near future to increase my RAM from 6GB to 12GB, and I am currently looking at different kits. My problem is, I don't fully understand what I should be looking for in terms of speed or latency. I don't know which of those is most important.

I am currently running:

CPU: Intel Core i7-975 Extreme Edition 3.3 GHz Socket 1366
PSU: Corsair HX 1000W
RAM: Patriot Extreme Performance Viper Series DDR3 6GB (3 x 2GB) PC3-16000 Low Latency DIMM Kit
GFX Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 480
PSU cooler: Coolermaster V8
Mobo: ASUS Rampage III Extreme X58
Chassis: Thermaltake Kandalf Armor+
OS: Win7 Ultimate x64

So I would really appreciate some guidance on what stats to go after and tell me why so I understand. I would prefer to stick with Patriot RAM, it has served me VERY well, but if its necessary I can choose an equivalent.

As I reside in Canada, the 2 stores I shop at are NCIX and Memory Express. So if you would please, if you are suggesting RAM to me, please use either of those websites.

Thank You.

Right 1st things 1st, more RAM will not help with overclocking
also, do you ever hit the pagefile on your HDD because your using more than 6GB RAM, I wouldnt advise a upgrade in RAM unless your constantly using more than 5.5GB.

but, i would advise this RAM: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=58809&...acture=Patriot

+1 to JD's advice (though I didnt see he was overclocking). Are you sure you are close to using 6GB of ram? Not many people do... Verify that.

If you feel you need more ram, the kit JD selected is solid. Though no need for ddr3 2k unless you are benchmarking or overclocking heavily.

I'm not overclocking, and I don't know of this "pagefile" thing, so I can't answer that. However I can tell you that with the amount of programs I tend to run at one time, my RAM reaches in the 90+ percents. Especially when watching a Blu-Ray movie with Cyberlink's PowerDVD Ultra 10 software.

and overtime, even if I am not running anything, my memory gradually decreases cause I always have my computer running. After a reboot, my RAM is running at 23% give or take with no apps, and after a couple days..it runs in the 50 Percents, with no apps running.

@jdcrispe95

The RAM kit you linked was actually one of the 2 kits I was looking at.

Anyway, um..my question still hasn't really been answered yet. I still need to know what to look for in RAM and to know why.

Well you want RAM with the highest speed possible (make sure its within margins of your motherboards limitations otherwise this could create a bit of a performance issue, or make your computer not post at all)

I would recommend 1600Mhz - 2000Mhz if you want ultimate performance for gaming, if your not a gamer and you just like to run applications that dont require much RAM speed, i would suggest 1066Mhz - 1333MHz, I would only recommend 800Mhz DDR3 if you have a low end CPU (e.g Dual core E2100)
