Question Computer update time

Hi guys,

Thinking of updating my computer for the first time in ages. My current one is water cooled, so I'm going to continue with that.

So I'm thinking a i7 2600k chip, so I need a water block that will fit that.

Current parts list is:
Swifttech MCP655 12VDC Pump
Swifttech MCR320 3x120mm
3 x Scythe S-Flex 1600RPM
Apogee GTX CPU water block
Swifttech MCW60
Swifttech MicroRes

This setup has been running on my E8400 for some time (like 2 - 3 years?) with no problems. With a new GPU I think I'll grab a full coverage block as I won't be upgrading it for some time afterwards.

So yeah, just advice on a waterblock and if I should upgrade any other parts.

Thanks, Paul.

Hey Paul, its been a while.

About the fan, suggesting to replace them with gentle typhoon ap-15, its better, though they quite pricey and somewhat hard to find, not sure if you can find them easily or cheaper at Oz.

Yea, depending on the GPU, prolly more rad. Heatlods have changed. Might want to read the stickies and if overcolcking the CPU, then a new CPU block.

My old link, not near as old as you here. Times have changed a LOT with heatloads.

I would say you need more rad for the gpu and cpu, however your temps will probably still be in-line with HQ air cooling. If you like the swiftech CPU blocks like I do, then the XT rev 2 is a nice step up from the GTX, however your GTX is still a decent block.

The only problem with his GTX, besides being old, is that he will need a new LGA adapter for 1155/1156. You would need to buy this 1155/1156 adapter kit, which I don't know if it's available in Oz. BTW, I did buy that for my GTZ waterblock I'm using on my 2600k and it works well. The top mount will work with 1366, 1155 or 775. You would only need a 1366 backplate if you wanted to go with that for whatever reason down the road with the waterblock.

And I also think you will need more rad with a cpu and gpu in the loop too. The 2600k can get close to 200 watts heatload by itself and today's higher end gpus kick some very serious heatload into a loop.

The case I have is designed to have a radiator hanging out the back of it. Currrently only have the one mounted up high, so could add another there. Another 3x120 you think? I would need a hold down plate for 1155 if I was to use my existing block.

Found some of those fans bing, thanks for that. They look good.

How about the pump? I run it on full speed.

The pump should be good to go. Plenty of pump for your loop.

2 X 120 for the second rad is probably fine, however bigger is always better right?

Pump is fine no need for more.

Just ordered Apogee XT rev 2 block, EK full coverage 580GTX block and 10 x AP-15 fans from sidewinder for way cheaper than here shipped. Yay for the good Aussie dollar! You guys get realllllly cheap hardware btw.

An example, dispite the condition of our dollars, according to the EVGA websites (AU and US) the "EVGA GeForce GTX 580 FTW Hydro Copper 2" is RRP $699.99USD. That same card here is $835.00AUD. Consider that according to xe.com the US price is $661.18 AUD (as I post this) thats a $174AUD markup. It dosn't cost that much to ship one here! Thats RRP, so some charge more for it too, but not all. I found a really good deal for a non watercooled 3gb card here so I went with that instead. All said an done, probably close to 800 for the card, block and fittings, but I get 3gb ram instead of 1.5.

Just to qualify the above statment, the prices on xe.com and reality are ofter quite different so this would be a best case.

Anyway /endrant. I'll probably be ordering more stuff from the US provided I can find someone to ship it to me
