FAH Bigadv Server 130.237.232.141 Software Upgrade

FYI if you have any difficulties with obtaining new WUs from this (130.237.232.141) server. Restart your client and/or your rig, and the assignment server should re-assign you to another IP.

bigadv server 130.237.232.141 is going into accept-only mode for a few days. We're getting ready to upgrade the server software there, and we can't have any outstanding jobs when we do that.

I'm not attached to that server, but one of my 2600 boxes has been unable to get a wu from this server 130.237.232.237 for almost two days :eh?:

There appear to be issues with some of the Bigadv servers right now.

Also appear to be a number of reports for this server IP over the last week.

What type of client are you running? Also, can you drop in your log info here (or in a new thread) using ChasR's guide, please?

Sounds like it's affecting multiple F@H members. The next week or so will be difficult for the F@H community, it seems.

Looking at the the similar issues experienced by other F@H members, I would take a guess that it's nothing on your client end that seems to be causing the problem. Other than downloading a clean copy of the client and re-installing it, I can't think of anything else to try.

Anyone else have a suggestion?

There is no reason to do anything further than starting and stopping the client, which will cycle requests for WUs faster. If you want to avoid an idle state, remove the -bigadv flag.
You will still get ridiculous ppd out of a 2600K.

I removed the bigadv flag on three rigs. Unfortunately only one box grabbed new work. The other two are still complaining about bag packets and/or the assignment server can't be contacted.

What happens when you ping the assignment server from one of the machines with the Could not CosmHTTPOpen error? You can ping the server by clicking on this link http://assign.stanford.edu:8080/

Nothing - just resolves the ip address 171.67.108.200 vsp10v-vz100.standford.edu but never get any response - 100% loss. I don't know if they normally allow icmp though?

Clicking on the link gives me the expected OK response. I think you have a connectivity issue unrelated to the lack of WUs.

Why wouldn't the client automatically pick up non-bigadv's when it can't get work for several hours? I thought -bigadv was just an enable switch, not a require switch.

It should switch to regular smp WUs immediately if there is no bigadv work, but for some reason that isn't working.

If I click the link in a browser in the host OS it says OK, but I can't try that in the VM - all I can do is manually ping. I can ping google and some other popular sites with no problem, but pinging the url you posted just resolves the IP and gives no reply. Incidentally I just noticed one box that was unable to contact the assignment server yesterday finally did overnight, but hasn't gotten any work even though I removed the bigadv flag. It just keeps getting bad packets in lieu of work.

**Update - now it's doing something different. Acts like it's downloading work, then says it has nothing to do and tries again:

This is what I keep getting... intermittently. Eventually my bigadv rigs have picked up work... it's just taken a while.

Harlam,
What you're seeing is the expected behavior when the server is out of work. That's what mine have been doing. It's giving the bad packet type message because it expects a WU and doesn't get one. At that point or earlier, the AS should send you to a server with work available, but that isn't functioning for some reason.

I just got to my rigs, had 22 bad packet tries, restarted the client and got a WU after 5 tries to communicate with server. All's well now. :soda:

10-4 - just picked up P2686. It's work... but not the best to test the OC on my new 2600K.
