Domain issues

Okay. This is an odd one. Mainly lack of paperwork on my school's part really.

So. I'm in the band. I run the sound system in the school's PAB, the band's mobile sound system, and also help manage the school's web site, and then run the band's web site. The band's website is http://www.nwrband.org/ Issue is, this domain was registered under a past parents name. We can't contact this parent, and the address expires on November 11th of this year. If we wait for the domain to expire, and then create a new account, can we just claim the name, but under a different account?

The domain name is under GoDaddy, and the hosting is Venture Technology. They're doing the hosting for free, and we're paying GoDaddy for the domain. The plan is wait for the name to expire, and then the day after, claim the name under a different account that WILL be kept track of.

are there any issues with this plan? Are domain names like phone numbers in there being a "brown period" where they can't be assigned?

To start, there's a grace period (around 2 weeks, I think) before the domain can be re-registered after the expiration date, during which the owner can still renew it.
Second, the domain is at GoDaddy. GoDaddy has a bad habit of taking over expired domains so they can try to sell them on their auction thing.

Keep trying to contact the original owner. You don't want some "domainer" squatter or loser in GD management taking the domain and charging you ransom for it.

Why is there a separate domain being paid for to begin with? Why not just put the band as nwrband.rcsd.ms?

They're silent. Silence is good. Very good. Your Core 2 Quad is based off of the Pentium pro in a few ways.
