So im trying to put together a cheapish gaming rig for my stepdad. He mainly plays things like dragon age 2 and the witcher . its all it will be used for besides email and facebook. Hoping to get it to run games at a medium quality well. I threw this together but im still not very good at picking components yet. If theres anything you see that needs to be upgraded or i can cut back on to save money let me know. your advice would be wonderful. Also if im missing any component i may need such as a cpu fan as im not sure if the i5 comes with a stock one or if it good enough. things like that. Ill deal with monitor, mouse and keyboard later unless you know of a great deal right now.

case: Antec 300 mid tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042

PSU: Corsair cx600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028
Ram: Gskill Ripjaws 8gig http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231311

If you're not going to overclock it for now then use the stock cooler and you can always put on an aftermarket cooler at some other stage, although it will be best to just get a decent cooler for it from the start. Your call.

I would probably go for a better PSU as well, because most Thermaltake PSUs are only average quality at best. Check this out http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=589708

would it be more wise to stick with something like a corsair? Also i shouldnt need more than 750 right? i only had this one up as it was part of the combo.

Knock the PSU down to a CX600 from Corsair, go to 4GB of RAM, and feed the savings into a faster GPU.
The seasonic you selected is superior quality, but more expensive.

Updated the list with the corsair and a gtx470. but how do you guy feel about recertified parts. as it drops 200 bucks off the 470? Also any other comments or does it look good? If recertified is kinda iffy ill prolly just stick with the 460 as my stepdad isnt hardcore gaming

I'd trust EVGA B-Stock more then Newegg recertified. You also get a 90 day warrenty instead of a 30 day, and while Newegg is the god of customer service, EVGA is pretty good as well.

remember to use the 10 dollar off code... you can do this easily even if you have used it before by creating another account. also id suggest likei always do to go through a site like bigcrumbs to click through to newegg to give you some cash back from your purchases as well. this is a big ticket item so when its all purchased you may get at least 30 dollars back.

btw, i have the three hundred and it is awesome!
