You need to enable SATA ports on your motherboard for the SSD to show up in bios.

If your old harddrive was IDE, then you need to go into the bios and enable SATA. Read your motherboard's manual, it will show you how.

well im using a top of the line motherboard... rampage 2 extreme and I have 2 other sata drives already(non SSD)

I looked in my bios by the way and the SATA ports or configured for ide no ahci... apparently most people use ide for their SSD by reading other forums... for compatibilty.

Just cant believe my new out of the box SSD is bad when the bios sees it, device manager reads it... but how to get to use it in windows? The manual says it should show up in my computer.

I'm still lost.

Deja-Vu...

Control panel > Administrative tools > computer management > disk management. The wizard to initialize the disk should come up. If not right click on the disk > initialize.

That's not true for all SSDs. For instance my OCZ Agility works nicely on IDE and OCZ recommends not to run at least the Agility drives in AHCI.

Your best bet is to remove all the HDs from the mobo, connect the new SSD, and reinstall windows onto the SSD. It will auto setup trim etc, let you format it to install windows etc.
