Unhappy Computer freezes when playing

I'm having problems with my computer freezing totally when playing demanding games (bfbc2, Crysis2) about half an hour in to the game. the screen just freezes in place and computer becomes unresponsive and I have to restart the computer from the power button. I am pretty sure this doesn't happen when playing little older games (in example tf2). This started happening after buying new gpu(Asus gtx570 dcII), psu(Antec true power quattro 850w) and memory but tried with old memory with no effect. I also changed the computer to another case(pretty crappy) until I get a new one because gpu not fitting.
Temps do not rise too high(gpu stays under 80c) and ran furmark for 20 mins without problems and temps staying under 85. Is my psu faulty or what is the problem as the psu should be good quality

I really appreciate your help and thoughts, thanks!

Hi.

Your temps seems a little high for your GPU, install MSI Afterburner and under setting and fan tab, create a fan profile. Let me know the results.

not enough information.
"when you play games that really use the heck out of the hardware it locks up on you" and . . . . ?
and the gpu is just under frying eggs temps .

there is no way i would assume anything is faulty at first, there are to many possibilities to make adjustments to things. and ways to discover lots of clues about what might be happening without even opening the case up.

Test, test specific items in the computer hard, and see which one fails first.
Start with Prime using Small FFT, this will beat the hell out of the cpu only.
play with the Intel Burn Test, set it for about 20 tests and see if it passes all of them.
that should be enough to absolve the cpu and its cooling from the scenario.

OCCT has a power test that trys to use power across your whole machine, makes cute graphs of the power voltage too, assuming they are reading things correct, it should be able to tell some things. and really put the power supply through a heavy load.
Reading the power with a voltmeter is many times more usefull for determining reality, but stuff like that is a start.

test fur for longer, but then at 85* IMO that aint good enough, need to get slightly better cooling that that, somehow.
then test the video Ram , using gputool or something that does other than render, ram is very important, and the Video cards ram and voltage regulations can be hotter than the GPU . if there is someway to get the whole gpu cooler, those other things other than just its processer will be cooler too.

everything that can be overclocked, can usually be clocked down a bit for testing , that can help FIND the item, finding which is the weakest link is the first thing to figuring out how it might be adjusted differentally.

do a full list of your hardware stuff for referance,
and tell of any adjustements you made in overclocking of the cpu or the gpu.
.

Temps are fine for that GPU if auto fan. I have run mine well into the 90's with no instability. HOWEVER I would crank the fan and see if that prevents it. If it does, you are somehow finding instability lower than I have seen before.

Tried running with fans at almost full speed and side of the case open. Same result and temps stayed under 70.

Yeah sorry about that, put the info in my sig but it is not showing for some reason? So here they are:
Gpu: Asus gtx570 dcuII
Cpu: Intel i7-920 @ 2.66(until getting computer sorted)
Psu: Antec true power quattro 850w
Ram: Kingston HyperX 12GB (3x4GB) 1600MHz
Cooling: Coolink Corator DS
Windows 7

ran ITB about half a week ago(with the new hardware) if I remember correctly 15 tests with the stress level set to very high without problems. Will test it tomorrow again.

Will also do the other tests soon as possible. Will do them my case open to keep the temps down and have already ordered better cooling case.

Switch GPU drivers...

Maybe add a bit of Vtt since you have 12GB of memory...

you could also test with 1 measley stick of ram, then if that was an issue, you just need to tweak it a bit.
or you could test all the ram with Memtest86 outside of the system overnight, or concentrate on specific tests like test 5 and 6 (if i remember right).

That's often a classic sign of an unstable core.

So today I have been running all these tests.

I ran Furmark for almost two hours without any errors or problems. You think that is enough or should I run it even longer?

Also ran prime95 on small ftt for 7 hours with zero errors. Yesterday I went trough the OCCTs psu test (the 1 hour one) and that came also with no errors. As writing am running IBT and it has done so far 16 runs.

Switch GPU drivers...
Have tried the currently newest ones, the latest beta drivers and couple versions older without any luck.

Have you run Fur and Prime at the same time?
