over sized ram

I was wondering what would happen if I were to use ram modules that are bigger then my board is rated for? Like put 4x8GB modules in a board with 4 dimm slots and a max ram capacity of 16GB.

I would imagine, as the directions infer, it wouldnt work.

Why do you think you need this much ram anyway?

Like was said, it probably will not work.

also for 99% of users there would be no reason for 32gb of ram, especially at a price of $300 per dimm

I need a lot of ram for crunching in memory. Some of the fx boards seem to support 16gb dimms. Any other upcoming chipsets that might increase ram capacity for amd/intel desktops?

Just so you are sure you actually need it...

Server based board (Evga SR-2) will hold more sticks.
