Photo id printer and software?

I need a printer and software for photo ids, and i need some suggestions, it would be for a school, and the budget is around $1000. Anyone know anything?

What type of IDs are being created? Are we talking about temporary/low-quality badges, or permanent badges for long-term use?

For temporary/low-quality, pretty much any color printer will do along with a generic digital camera to take a picture of the student.

For commercial grade permanent badges, you'll probably run more than $1,000. Even low-end single sided badge printers run more than that.
