I don't understand why gaming sites always base part of their review of sound cards on how much frame rate loss they get from a card. A lot pick a Soundblaster over others in a comparison because the FPS is higher, even though it doesn't sound as good. Look at the Terratec vs. Audigy on Toms Hardware. The Terratec is superior, but Tom dings it for gaming because of higher CPU utilization. What I have to say is this. WHY DO THEY THINK WE BUY FAST PROCESSORS? I bought an Athlon 1400 because I'd have CPU power to spare when running games, letting the sound card pull more if it needs. If the sound card pulls more CPU power, then it's probably doing something, right?
