Looking to SLI GTX 580

Hi guys I am looking to buy another GTX 580 in order to hopefully achieve 3d surround gaming, my current setup is:

CoolerMaster HAFF 922 Case With Clear Side Panel + Brand New Mesh Side Panel

Gigabyte X58A-UD3R V2

6GB Kingston Hyper V 1600 DDR3

120GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD HD

1TB Segate HD

Corsair TX650W PSU

Corsair H70 With Upgraded Akasa Viper Fans

Inno3D Geforce GTX 580

So my question is, in order to SLI the cards, do i ahve to buy the same brand (Inno3d) or can i buy any other GTX 580 as long as it is a 580, I am also aware iw ill probably have to upgrade the PSU to maybe Xorsair TX850, anything else I need to consider.
Thanks for you help

As long as it's the same GPU architecture you can SLI them. So you can buy any GTX580 from any brand and you can still SLI them.

They both need to be a GTX580 with the same amount of vRAM. I remember there was an unofficial way to SLI a 320MB and 640MB 8800GTS, but I don't think that's possible anymore.

I have an Asus Matrix and MSI Lightning in SLI.

Yes, you will be fine. You can have two separate brands. Just both cards need to have the same vRAM like everyone else has said, so if your current 580 is the 1.5GB then you need your second 580 to have 1.5 GB. Same thing if you have the 3GB 580.

Thanks guys my current one is 1.5 so i will ensure I buy another 1.5, in terms of power to run everything I have would you say the corsair 850 is enough or should I need to go higher as I may even consider going tri-sli

I've seen people running SLI 580s on 850w PSUs with no issue, but just to be safe I would get a 1000W, you could probably even do 950W, I'd look at these PSU's:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139013

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139015

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151102

To be completely safe, I'd buy this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139034

But the Season and Corsair 850W PSUs that I listed are excellent and should be able to do the job, but you wouldn't be able to OC your GPU if you have an 850/950W. A minor OC of the GPU can add a ridiculous amount of extra wattage due to the voltage increases.

I'm using the SeaSonic X-750 with SLI GTX580s and I've never seen my system pull 700+ watts, even when running FurMark. IIRC, my system was using ~650W during FurMark. In 3DMark and game benches, my system hasn't even pulled 600W yet, the highest was around 575W.

Yeah, my 570s run flawlessly on my 850w.

Usually those PSU wattage things are vastly overstated. I've seen a PC running dual GTX 580s and an i7-990x pulling 750w and that was with the CPU oc'd to 4.0 ghz and full load on the GPUs.

Just make sure that you have multi montior setup for 2 580's. one 580 will even handle 2560x1600, none the less 1920x1200 or less...

I have bought the KFA2 GTX 580 to go with my Inno3D 580, so going to use them in sli along with my 3 x acer GD245HQ 3D monitors.
I have also bought a new psu, in the end I went for hopefully a good quality psu I bought the OCZ ZX 1250W '80 plus gold' modular power supply, so hopefully this will also be future proof for me in terms of upgrading, overclocking or even considering tri SLI

The only thing I've heard about the OCZ and Sparkle 1250W PSUs is annoying coil whine under heavy load.

The only issue that I have with my Dual 580s is that they get pretty hot when I am gaming at 5760 x 1080. I'm contemplating putting them under water. I had OCed them, but had to back it off because of the heat.

I have now fitted the the 580's in SLI and have ntoiced the temps of one fo the cards higher than the other idle one is at 50'c and the other one 34'c because one fo the cards is right next to the other one and has no room to breathe, can anyone suggest a simple solution that will help cool the cards down e.g an extra fan

So you are saying this is to be expected and not too worry about the 20 oc temp diff, is there anything I can buy to aid with the cooling that can be placed overhead because there is no room between the cards. I have to say the KFA2 Card is one thick mother, it is really thick in comparrison to my other 580 so I could only just fit the two cards.

I was playing Crysis 2 on full setting and in surround 3d and it was flying, but I do worry about the increased temp of the card and the additional noise it has broguht to my machine overall, any suggedtions will be greatly appreciated.

I was thinking of sendign theKFA2 card back and buying a slimmer option to allow for greater air flow between the cards or am i beign overely worried and this is the norm, I have no idea what to expect.
