I want to build a computer that will handle all the games that are coming out for the next 2 years or so and i was just wondering where to start. I do not want to break the bank but i do not want to pay to little as well. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks :)

I would look into a 2600k processor and a board with either p67 or z68 chipset, fill it with 8 gig of ddr3 memory and top it off with a gtx580 or if you prefer an hd 6970 video card and call it a day. Should play anything that is out or most likely anything that is coming out as well as anything currently available. Should also be able to build it for $1200 depending on what hdd, case and psu you choose.

I was looking at spending about 700 to 800 on cpu, motherboard, psu and ram. I have a good case and videocard.

do you have a 64-bit OS to work with, or do you need a copy of Windows?

$750 can get you a nice micro-atx build with very little bling, but an overclocking 2500K and a GTX 560 ti.

CPU 2500k. 219
Mobo Asus maximums IV Gene-Z 169
Ram adata 8gb 2000mhz 89
Psu Corsair tx850 129
Crucial m4 128gb SSD 197

There you go, you are at your 800 dollar budget with a 200 dollar SSD card :)

my basic idea

Rosewill R102 case: $29.99
I5-2500K + 8 GB DDR3-1600: $249.98
Spinpoint F3 1 TB: $64.99 (Sudden jump in all drives by $5-15 for some reason)
AsRock Micro-ATX Z68 Mobo: $94.99
PNT GTX 560ti: $224.99 w/ $30 rebate and free batman
Samsung 22X DVD burner: $19.99
CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO: $34.99
Rosewill Blue 120mm fan: $7.99
Corsair CX500 v2 500W: $59.99 w/ $10 rebate

total: $787.90 before rebates.

My case is a Leon Li full tower and my card is a Nvidia GTX260 still runs pretty darn well.

The jump in price is due to the flooding in uh. Thailand? I can't remember. But expect all hard drive prices to raise. There was an article on maximumpc

anyhow how about a AMD processor vs. Intel. For gaming purposes only is there a real difference? i noticed that amd processors are significantly cheaper and have the same if not better performance for gaming then intel i7's. So whats the price difference in amd vs. intel about?

So my 2 cents

so this is an alright combo on new egg for what you are looking for but if i was you want i would buy every thing separately get 8 gb of ram, and since you already have a case don't get that either, and get a lower mother board like the Fatal1ty P67 Performance Socket That gives you a total of $567 and you have 200-300 dollars to spend on a really nice GPU and you can sell your current one and add more money to your new gpu and get some thing like the HIS H697F2G2M Radeon HD 6970 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 or if you want nvidia this is what i would recommend, the Galaxy 57NKH3HS4GXK GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0

The MotherBoard dosent really Do much for you since you are building on a budget go for the p67 mother board from new egg and look for the features that you want

I do not agree: for 20 extra bucks, you can get a future proof z68 board that will support Ivybridge.

i was saying for the budget and saving money sure he can thats why i said it is his preference and i heard that ivybridge will be geared toward servers but i could be wrong loll didnt mean to say that mobo was unimportant just that with saving money it dosent matter what board he goes with

Actually, Ivybridge is (more or less) SB architecture, shrinked to 22nm (instead of 32nm). Lower TDP and certainly a bit higher clock.
Still 4cores/8threads for the higher end cpu's.
BTW, you can get a decent board like this one for under $130:

EDIT: I agree with you on one point HB, you don't need a $200 mobo to achieve nice OC with SB chips.

Okay guys after quiet a bit of research this is what i came up with for a rig: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDE00ZFBGRBOX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103913, ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157281, G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428, OCZ ZS Series 750W 80PLUS Bronze High Performance Power Supply compatible with Intel Sandy Bridge Core i3 i5 i7 and AMD Phenom http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341049, and I already have a Nvidia GeForce GTX260. Will this setup run all the new games on max setting and future games or do i need to look into a better gpu? Thanks for the input guys! Much appreciated!

Mike

you need a newer GPU. That 260 isn't even DirectX 11 compatible. You don't hafta break the bank on a new card. However, you won't likely get more than another year or so of practical use out of that 260 with new games and their much higher requirements coming out.

Upgrading the GPU in another few months (if you are fine with lower resolutions/quality until then) is a perfectly legit method to do if you need time to build up some scratch to put out for the gpu.
