Can I disable IAStorIcon.exe?

I installed intel's RST driver for my SSD. The device manager says the AHCI controller is using the intel driver, but there is also this RST management software that I suspect is unnecessary. I turned off the tray icon, but the process still runs in the background on startup. Is this software necessary for my SSD to work properly or can i disable the startup item?

You can disable the startup item via msconfig. It's not necessary.

The RST management software doesn't really do much, but it doesn't run in the background so there's no reason to remove it.
