Is that an AGP PRO video card you got there cyber mouse. Why aren't there any AGP PRO graphics cards for hardcore gamers? Is a 4X AGP slot slower than a 4X AGP PRO slot?

are u a hardcore video editor or graphics designer cuzz thats all you can basically do really well with those $1000+ cards. They can do gaming but there wont be much of a difference from the popular geforce3 cards...infact some of those editing cards are most of the time worse at playing games.

I was looking at these sorts of cards and wondering the same thing. Here's what I came up with:

Most are for professional video-production and editing.

They are not designed with gaming in mind at all.

After I read just a very little bit, I became dis-interested, but I often wondered what the acronym CAD stood for. It seemed that CAD has a lot to do with graphical design in applications like Engineering and Architecture.

Anybody out there know what CAD stands for? Something like Computer-Aided Design? Computerized-Architectural Design? Anybody know?

im pretty sure the name has to do with architecture seeing as CAD renders 3d images of buildings and is very complicated to use. lots of math is involved too.

and those $1000 dollar cards are what my school uses in the video editing room.

Computer Aided design or Computer Aided Drafting, depending on who you talk to.

for instance, in animation, u want to see ur scene in the veiwport, rendered, and animated to save time. Well, these tings can run some serious 3d environments w/ no problems. It all boils down to getting the job done the fastest any most productive way. These cards can do it. Read the specs and u'll get an idea of what these puppies can do.

And these are all for display purposes, i dont think they have anything to do w/ rendering (to a file), only display.

Yeah, you could use a GeForce to run CAD, but these specialized cards have specialized chipsets and drivers that are built specifically for AutoCad and a few other well-known CAD systems. These cards contain code that is auto-correcting and tested so that there are no errors in rendering. Your typical gaming card will forgo accuracy for framerate. These cards will NOT miscolor a single pixel or render a single shadow incorrectly (or not correctly HIDE any surface). They may actually be slower in framerate, but they make NO mistakes nor take any shortcuts for calculations. They are meant for designing systems that are mission critical (like car brakes, for instance--or rockets, or medical instruments).

AGP PRO is just an extension for regular AGP that adds connectors for extra POWER. If you have an AGP Pro slot, you probably have a little plastic insert that keeps your regular AGP cards safe from moving along to the wrong connectors. You would remove that tab if you had an AGP Pro card.
