What else is cutting into your "overclocking budget" lately??

As for me, I've built like 3 new computers in the last couple weeks, plus bought a 6950, picked up a Matrix last month... wanting to buy more, but...
  1. $300+ to replace an oil pan gasket on the wife's car this week
  2. ~$1100 on my truck this week for a new wheel bearing, 2 new tires and fix the rear heat - still have a radiator going to need replacement sometime soon
  3. Building a new AR-15 (all RRA 5.56)
  4. Trying to complete a bathroom we tore out a YEAR ago
  5. Plumbers out twice to snake a drain and then run a camera (twice this week, 5 times overall for this drain), found out we have a broken commode that needs replacement and still haven't fixed the backing up drain... may be a "belly" in the main line under the house, which would mean either tearing up the kitchen and living room floors (cement pad, yes) and/or running a new line outside the foundation.
  6. Found a bit of mold behind a cabinet from the multiple backups above.... not sure how to figure out how bad that is. It could involve tearing out half the kitchen cabinets, stove and wall into the garage to contain.
  7. Bought my mom a new (used) car last month.

And of course...

Christmas is coming.

SHEESH! How the heck am I supposed to keep up???

And I'm heading to KCMO tomorrow to go to Costco and MicroCenter... DANGEROUS!!!!

As far as your main rig I don't think that you have much to worry about for a while. If you mean benching, then there is a cheap solution. Ebay. With your cpu, (if you can get her up to 5.2-5.3 benchable) you can just buy some older gpu's (6600gt, 8800gt, and similar ATI cards) and get quick easy points (and overclocking fix). And if you don't kill the hardware in the process, you can resell it and buy some more. It's a win win situation.

I run 3D benches at 5GHz, got CPU-Z screenshot at 5.4, 2D benches mostly at 5.2 or so. Not exactly a golden chip.

I'm not too worried about it... I think the only other step is going cold, and SB reportedly isn't great at that, so I don't see the point in investing in it for this machine.

I think I'm gonna build a benching station and put some 775 stuff together, maybe play with that a bit. It's economical for now. Maybe some AMD stuff, too.

Id say trying to build up my gun collection is taking priority. I am pretty content with my curret rig and its performance but there is a mental list of wants that is going in the delaying gratification bin for the time being. However Santa (my employer) has been given my wish list and it involves computer parts...or more EDC knives. and yes...ive a very generous employer.

Jeez... just went with the wife to pick out some photos from a family "Christmas card" shoot... $200 for Christmas cards and another $900 for THREE pictures... yes, THREE. And no, not huge framed family portraits. These are for a HALLWAY.

WHAT???

God.

I'm finishing my AR THIS MONTH... if she doesn't like it, she can go pound sand!

More power to you if you can afford it. My wife knows our budget for christmas cards and she adhere's to it. IMO she has a lot more accountability when she doesn't bring home any bacon. Before when we both worked she would spend without any regard.

*edit* Just for kicks, here's what cutting in to my overclocking budget:
2 new o2 sensors for the wife's vehicle.
Parts for the timing belt change on my pickup
Alignment is needed on both vehicles
Of course, Christmas.

I honestly wish I had a side job where I could either do some house remodeling or some programming, because I can do both. I think I'm scared to make any commitment like that though because it may take up too much time.

$860 for tires, $200 for wedding gifts, $150 for gas when driving to said wedding, $300 for new knives and silverware, $325 for paying off old credit card, I'll probably spend $200 at the store today for Thanksgiving stuff. That is all THIS month. Plus I'm in the process of finishing my theater room which consists of a new projector, new receiver, wiring, and new speakers.

And beer. Lots of beer.

Law school tuition for my wife...

It almost hurts thinking of what else I could be buying for $50,000 per year.

For me I have a baby on the way.. So Im trying to pay off my little debts so that I can buy a house later. Aaaand.. Im probably gonna hold out a bit anyways.. I havent gotten my moneys worth from this setup yet, and everyone wants sandybridge, so chances of selling my rig off if I wanted to are pretty slim, at a price Id be happy with anyways (without giveing it away)

Just purchased a new house, but I really have no need to drop any more coin on the combination work / gaming machine - it handles everything I can throw at it with ease.

Next time I buy some components it will be to wire the new house - wireless bridging, switch(es), etc. Just picked up a new Samsung 55" Smart App TV, hoping to find another on sale soon.

If you are thinking about getting certified in a field of IT, please make sure you aren't using a braindump website. It discredits the certification, and makes those who worked hard for their knowledge less credible as well.
