TV Tuner cards ?

Hey guys

My 5 year old 40" LCD TV has died on me... That sucker cost me 2500$ back in the day, and it ain't 1080p (only 1080i), as the Ps were just coming on the market.

Anyhow, I still have my HD cable box decoder sitting in my room. My bro and my dad get to enjoy their TVs, I don't.

I have browsed the selection of TV Tuner cards, but I am stumped on their connections. They have a cable in. I do understand that the cable will be plugged in directly, but will I still get all my selection of channels (channel bundles) without the use of my cable box ?

I do have a second monitor in my setup, which I could use to watch TV on while doing other stuff on my main monitor. My audio output is from my optical out on my soundblaster card going through my Yamaha home theater receiver.

Any help on those devices and how they could work with my setup would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you just want basic local channels or analog channels you can use a tuner card (if you have cable or fios). But if you want all of your HD channels inlcuding premiums you would want to go with a cable card tuner. There are many out there but keep in mind that this will only work with cable and fios. If you have directv or u-verse you will need something like the happauge hd-pvr or colossus that can record component or hdmi while controlling a cable box's output and channel selection.

Good luck.

Where I live (Montreal, Canada), I am subscribed to Videotron (internet and cable provider). I have a Pace HD decoder box with a regular cable plugged in. It also has a S-Video output on the back, if that helps...

So, if I'm looking to get a TV tuner card, I should look for on that has a "digital TV tuner" correct ?
