Exclamation HELP with deciding on a motherboard

Hey Everyone,

I will be upgrading my PC soon and I need help to choose a motherboard, My specifications will be :

i5 2500k (I will overclock myself)
Nvidia GTX 570 ASUS Direct CU II
Kingston HyperX Genesis 8gb 1600MHz RAM
Corsair CX600 V2 PSU
Cooler Master HAF 922
Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler
1tb Hard Drive, Dont care about the DVD-RW Tbh.

So I want to decide on what motherboard I should get between the ASUS P8Z68-V Pro and the ASRock Extreme3 Gen3. Both get their fair share of great reviews. I will be overclocking my i5 to around 4.5-4.6 GHz. The ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 is my preferred board due to costs, And does not seem much different from the ASRock Mobo. Please let me know what you think, Cheers

It's different man. You can't see the VRM get pics with no VRM sinks on and take a closer look. Get the Extreme 3 and stick around 4.5 <1.35 and read the guide because it has a max power setting that has to be omitted in bios. I know your budget.

6 of one half dozen of the other...really. Whatever looks best to you and has the features you need at the price you want (probably could have asked this in your build thread though...either one of them).

Not permanently on that VRM I wouldn't think mate....
We chatted he's changing cases and now getting the (IMO better) V Pro? I think? Yes? Avi?

Overclocking to 4.5 GHz is easy for the CPU but on the ASRock it may be a bit of a push, you know? Sure you could do it, but if you're looking for long-term stability, you want to go with the Asus. I wouldn't do that high of an overclock on the ASRock.

BTW, do you live near a MicroCenter? They are doing a z68/i5-2500k bundle deal, with that you might be able to get the ASUS and processor for under $300.

I'd do 4.5GHz long term on the ASRock, no problem. 4.6, still probably fine. 4.7-4.8 starts getting iffy.

Extreme4 will handle up to 5 and probably more though. It's a decent amount more exensive ($180 vs $125)

Why not?

I certainly would do 4.5Ghz+ on most Asrock boards...including the Z68 Extreme3. IIRC, it has the 'V8+4" Digipower VRM's. So... yeah.

The ASRock is fine for overclocking of any sort, plenty of VRM juice and plenty of heatsinking on said VRMs.

If it costs less, I'd get the ASRock and overclock to your heart's content, for as long as you want.

Yeah, ummm so, I just totally biased against Asrock boards. Lol - oopsee!

I'm an idiot basically. Please excuse my comment, it was totally biased in the perception that an Asus board would be superior because it costs more.

Sigh. This is embarrassing.

No room for bias based off of nothing...but dont be embarrassed. We all started out knowing less than we did the day before.

Yeah that's true. I just have to be careful, if I get too cocky, I say stupid things.
